I was talking to my parents last night and they told me about this accident. Leaving the scene of boating accidents seems to be popular up there:(. They were docked at the Waterfront, and saw the helo circling. Poor fellow, 85yo minding his own business fishing, run over and left for dead in broad daylight...

My Dad said the State police know who did it, that the driver is 22yo and there were two other passengers. He said reports are that one of the passengers lives a few doors down from a State Trooper. Their conscience got the better of them and they walked down and told the Trooper what happened. Whoever it is must be somebody because they will not release the names of those involved. What a shame!!

What a shame. At least the old fellow died while doing what he loved.
On a different note, these things seem to happen because there are more and more boaters, while there are very few law enforcement personnel on the water.
Maybe it is time for strict speed limit enforcement and obligatory boating safety courses.
Cars and boats are easily as dangerous as a loaded gun,and in untrained hands they kill just as effectively.
We can only drive cars and own guns after we have proven to be responsible owner operators.the same should go for boats.
Out of curiosity. How often did you see people carry a six pack or a 12 pack onto a boat and open the first one while still at the dock or within 50 yards of the dock?

Rolmops: It is a TRAGIC ACCIDENT, yer reflex responce is to GROW THE REACH OF NANNY GOVERNMENT. Get MORE boating police, prisions, social workers. NO!!! S*** HAPPENS!!!! It is sad but lets not sacrifice our freedom to dumb down the system for all of us. Ol' Murky does not want to salute the GOVERNMENT every time he gets is his boat, because of rare accidents. Let's concentrate on makin' us safe from Islamo Facism, n' stop the GROWTH of NANNY GOVERNMENT!!! Please use yer heads folks.

So what? If they hurt someone throw the book at 'em same as they do with cars, (that's what already happens here in Seattle), we don't need more interference BY BIG NANNY GOVERNMENT in our freedoms: Please think, before calling fer massive government n' the taxes to pay fer it, over every little thing the happens!!! Respectfully, JR

There are no accidents. There are only cases of premeditated carelessness.

That is at least a case of negligent homicide.

As our friend, Bro Haut, would say, "Smite 'em".

N' I bet if the investigation shows that: someone is in DEEP DO DO, (under the existing system we now have)!! WE DON'T NEED MORE GOVERNMENT, we need less!!! Respectfully, JR

I agree with you. Hit and run and operating a boat in an unsafe manner are already against the law. The perps have to be held responsible for their behavior and sent to jail.

I find that idiots drive cars and kill people even after they're licensed, well-trained, etc. Do you know anyone that couldn't get a driver's license? I don't think any amount of licensing will stop rare tragic accidents like this any more than it does with cars. It's already illegal to drink and drive a boat a boat in my state--I totally agree with this law. There are already laws to deal with these perpetrators. I am against licensing, etc. We cannot turn irresponsible people into responsible people with a 2 hour class. We'll just succeed as usual, by making it more expensive and difficult for ourselves by trying to put it to the "bad guys". I know there are a lot of good, responsible people like yourself that want boat owners to be licensed but I feel it will only result in hardship on responsible people having to deal with another bureaucracy that will need to be created, not the intended effect of decreasing the incidents such as the aforementioned one.
