Are the pushrods coming up when the motor turns? Maybe (hopefully) you goofed up the static lifter adjustment. If you made em too tight there would be no compression. I hope you haven't wiped off any cam lobes. BTW did you turn it over while the head was off to verify the pistons were getting to the tops of their cylinders?

Before reinstalling the head, I turned the engine over and watched the pistons move normally. The push rods are straight and I adjusted the lash almost as instructed (the shop that rebuilt my head said to use "zero lash" plus one half turn instead of one full turn). I'll start over and let the rocker arms clatter all over the place if I can avoid pulling the top of the engine off again.

I could make a short video if anyone thinks it will add to the diagnosis. At this point, all it would show is the rockers and pushrods moving normally. My compression gauge needle didn't even wiggle.
