Anti reverse spring

I am replacing the anti reverse spring on my 69 85hp johnson. I see on the points base there is a contac for the spring. My queston is does the coil part of the spring bump the contac or is that contac suppose to be in the coil of the spring? I think the contac bumps the coil on the spring, but want to be sure.<br />Thanks for your help!

Should the engine for any reason attempt to run backwards, that coil bumps into that contact which effectively interupts the ignition. Your line of thought is correct.
