Re: Anti rust spray.

Hello,
No, no paint. Just something to prevent rusting. I totally forgot about WD-40 I guess that would do.
Thanks

Kerosene, but let it evaporate completely. It travels everywhere and the volatiles evaporate leaving only the paraffin. That's old school and something you need to repeat.
WD-40 and similar products are usually very helpful. Any petroleum based products can be hard on plastics, vinyl and paint.

+1 for Fluid Film. Great for rust, but a little messy to work with.

An Anti-corrosion spray. It dries to leave a film. it looks like crap, but it works. The film is soft however, so it is unsuitable for surfaces that will be handled.

Re: Anti rust spray.

Chain saw bar and chain oil is great for some applications // It sticks and has corrosion inhibitors // Husquavarna brannd is good.

Wd 40 will evaporate and leave very little or no long term protection.

Re: Anti rust spray.

I read a lot of reviews of different products i settled on T-9 boesheild, i believe its called. Wax based. Can get a little messy with residue if applied to heavy.

Most of the stuff specifically for long term rust protection is either a silcone or wax based from what i can tell.

oil based products i would be leery about because in order to get a good coverage you need to be very liberal in the application. often over or near wiring, tape, ruber, hoses etc....not good combo if oil based, IMO.

Re: Anti rust spray.

From Boeshield's website
Boeshield T-9? was developed and licensed by The Boeing Company to fill their need for a superior lubricant/protectant.

The formulation, based on a unique combination of solvents and waxes, is designed to penetrate metal pores and dissolve minor corrosion, then leave a resilient waxy coating that lasts for many months.

We began by successfully introducing Boeshield T-9? to the tough saltwater marine market for lubricating and protecting all metals. It works well on engines and deck hardware as well as electronics, batteries and wiring connections. It is non-conductive and will not cause short circuits.

For bicycle chains, T-9? has proven to be a tough, long lasting waterproof lubricant. Our sales keep growing every year despite many competitors.

On woodworking tool surfaces Boeshield T-9? recently topped all other surface treatments in Wood Magazine?s article on Rust Busters*. According to them: ?Except for the section treated with Boeshield T-9? all sections have complete.
I use it on my woodworking tools, and just started using it on my boat.

Despite what we all grew up knowing, almost as settled as Columbus discovered America, WD-40 is not the best thing to use. WD = Water Drying and it is a very useful product but it dries away moisture, leaves metal unprotected, and in my experience enhances corrosion--certainly doesn't prevent it--that green gray salt water pitting and funkiness. I know other salties will say the opposite but that's my view; I no longer use it ever on shotguns, fishing rods/reels, or boat stuff.

I like spray-on white lithium grease on parts like nuts and bolts, electronic connections, batteries, etc. It's clean, lasts, coats, but not good where you will be in contact. Great on trailer parts. I also use silicon spray a lot now; it lubricates and coats. And i still have some old cans of CRC or the odd numbers (6-56 I think) made for marine use that I like.

Dielectric grease for electronic connections including trailer lights.

I use this stuff as well. It clings to a surface and lasts much longer then WD-40. And it is safe for most every material.

I use White Spray Lithium Grease for trailer springs, shackles, hanger bolts, outboard tilt/trim units, etc....it sets up semi-hard and protects good!...Not to start a controversy, but I also use it on my trailer lug nuts...works very well!

Ayuh,... I wish I'd known 'bout it back when I bought my last pickup,... I'm sure it wouldn't have the rust it does today...
Fluid film seems to have slowed, or even stopped some of it...

Lanolin, plain ole Wool Oil,...

I remember back in the day, lanolin has a men's hair product....;)

is that where you got your "any grease..." sig line?

And don't forget linseed oil on the yard tools, mineral oil on the chopping block and knife handles (I still do that)

Re: Anti rust spray.

We sell Fluid Film at work, it's expensive, but as a rust preventative, I don't know that it can be beat.
My Uncle was doing some body work on his truck and ran out of time so someone suggested the fluid film. He sprayed it on bare metal, and drove it all winter, it was still rust free in the spring, when he finished the body work. That sold me,
I plan on undercoating my truck with it,
