Anti Seize or Not?

I’ve used the Evinrude gasket sealer and Permatex Aviation on all the bolts on the outdrive thermostat housing exhaust manifold & elbow bolts etc. I just removed the manifolds I installed 4 years ago to get access to the steering actuator and they all came right out. The good thing about gasket sealers is they seal out water and there is no risk of galvanic corrosion.

PS Champion makes a specific anti seize for aluminum; it’s used on spark plugs in air cooled aircraft engines.

The permatex works great, I put it on a ton of bolts. While it doesn't seize, it doesn't really break free either. Also messy. So an inaccessible bolt that you're trying to loosen and remove by hand might take a good bit longer to get out. Not sure why loctite isn't used more. It prevents seizing very well. In fact, I don't know that I've ever used the green, which would probably work very well in non critical applications.

Using Permatex you have to clean the old gunk out of the threads and then it will come out easy next time. I use a small pick on the bolt and thread chasers on internal threads

The studs and bolts are all new. Since I repainted my housing and had overspray into the stud and bolt holes, I picked up a set of thread chasers and cleaned out the holes so everything can go together cleanly.
