Re: Anti-seize your nuts.

the original anti seize bottle said *among many other claims* that if you left a nut and bolt in salt water FOR YEARS it would come off as easily as the day it went underwater

apparently, salt is not a problem for never seize

it can be likened to millions of lead ball bearings in a grease base

when I get a new boat project, the first thing I do is never seize the bolts *after soaking to get them free*

Re: Anti-seize your nuts.

I haven't used never-seize or similar products before - I've always just smeared on a little axle grease or white lithium grease & never had a problem.

Besides the lugs, however, I also give a smear on the mating surfaces between the back of the rim and the brake disc/drum. This is especially important when you have allow or aluminum rims on steel brakes. I had an assigned work vehicle in 2000 - a 1993 Bronco - with aluminum rims. Out of habit, when i was first assigned the truck, I took it to the garage and had everything checked. Then I asked to have the brakes checked. The lugs came off with only minor difficulty (they were never lubed), but the rims had welded themselves to the brakes...

It took the mechanics about 3 hours, a 4X4 chunk o' wood, and an 8 pound sledge to get the tires off!

That'd be a load of fun with a flat on the side of the road.

So, don't forget to put your gunk of choice on those mating surfaces!
