I've checked out lots and AVAST is the best for the money LOL free...but for real it is a very very good product in fact impressive

I do computers for living. No free antivirus is good enough. I personally use Kaspersky on my 4 home machines since 2003. Not a single issue at all.
Trend Micro would be a good choice too. You can email me if you need a help.

Don i have 4 kids with comps and pickup nasty's all the time. Id be willing to bet you have a something amiss with your current operating system now. (Virus Trojan etc.)

The very fact that AVG cant load is troubling and is probably being blocked. Malwarebytes is a very good program to run a spot check and then a deep check. Followed by Spybot another comprehensive malware program.

Those three programs will keep your OS free of almost any intrusive and unwanted programs..

Norton's home version is really lacking, they only stay in business due to lack of awareness on the publics part.
