Hello all - I have been considering keeping my 18' fiberglass bowrider on the water. I understand that I have to use an antifouling paint. What are the procedures to apply the paint? Also, the boat is on a trailer, I'm a little confused on painting where the bunks are? What about painting at the transom where the drive is? Thanks

Hello Marty..

why BP the boat ?.. what reason..

What is the longest time your going to keep in the water ?

IF you do paint the trans... tape 1" away from the drive ( do not paint up to the drive housing )

prep= 80 grit paper, clean with acetone and paint ( though not IMPO paint ).

YD.

Thanks, I'm considering renting a slip and letting it sit on the water for the summer, so I know it needs bottom coat. Is it as easy as sanding, cleaning and applying paint? What about getting around the bunks of the trailer?

Well, it is easy (kind of), depending on what brand and type of bottom paint you get.

As far as the bunks go, you will need to either put the boat on stands to paint it where the bunks are or paint, slide boat back off the bunks and support it while you paint where the bunks are...

I think you'll find that painting where the bunks are will be the hardest part of the job though!!!

Good luck!

Oh, and be sure to investigate the miriad of choices you've got when it comes to bottom paint. There are a LOT out there!
