Antifreeze level question

Bought a used 1998 Mercruiser 3.0

How much antifreeze is this thing supposed to hold? I filled it to the top, went out on the water for the day and noticed A LOT of antifreeze in the bilge.

The overflow hose goes down directly to the bilge (there's no overflow tank). When I pulled the cap off to check the antifreeze level, I noticed the tank was darn near empty.

Is this normal behavior?

Hello Pete:

Of course it is not normal. Sounds like you are missing the overflow tank. You won't get too far without one, because with each running of the engine, you will loose coolant.
