Here's the deal... got to take a trip this week. No time to wait for shipping, so I have to get locally.
Circuit City has the MIO 220 on sale for $179
Best Buy has the Magellan Maestro 3100 for $219 today and tomorrow only on-line with a $20 gift card.

I can't make up my mind which one. HELP!

Re: Any auto GPS gurus in the house?

I bought the Mio 310x 6 months ago works perfect

In general when there are many close turns its better to turn off the talking as you make the turns faster than it can tell you

I have found the map to be correct for LI and for trips to Buffalo

It has some nice modes like ,walking, bicycle, ect that will change the route to suit your needs

If you know a better way rather than try and get it to agree with you :) just drive and it will auto reroute to suit in seconds

Thanks Tom. I am leaning towards the MIO, but just found out TARGET has the MAGELLAN on sale for $199.

Going to check them both out later today. MAGELLAN only has 750,000 POI's, although I don't know if that's important.

Buy a Garmin GPS. I think you will be a lot happier and they last much longer and trouble free. Plus, I have been very happy with the Garmin costumer service.
I have had 4 GPS from them, 2 for cars and 2 for flying, I am a pilot.
Thanks
David

I used a Garmin last week in the New Jersey and New York area and it performed magnificently.

I am on my 4th Garmin, first with auto navigation (GPSMAP 276C). Of course it is not in the same price range as what you are looking at, but there are Garmin units in that range and Garmin's enhancements via Mapsource and tech support are without peer.

JB I'm so jealous! The 276 is my "dream machine". But you are quite right about the price points!

Re: Any auto GPS gurus in the house?

Bought the MIO 220. For $179 it is THE best value out there. Worked almost flawlessly. I confused it twice on route calculations last week. Once I decided to go a different way to avoid construction. The other, a road was closed for construction. In both cases after a minute it finally figured it out. Found the map to be 100% accurate in the urban and rural areas I traveled.

I know Garmin is good. I know Magellan is good too. But neither offer a unit with the specs at this price.

Re: Any auto GPS gurus in the house?

I am looking at the nuvi 350 - TTS - text to speach...

I have been using gps's now for about a year and believe when you are driving down the road and it says go right and there are 3 roads to the right and you are going 40mph with a line of traffic behind you....

TTS will take the next right - boat street -...

any other gps just says take the next right....

If you do not drive in major cities then you are ok -

Re: Any auto GPS gurus in the house?

I was in Atlanta this year, had rental car/s with GPS, I found both brand (Magellan and garmin) to be the same even had the same voice for audio, and the same half mile off ;) but they did help. I found (after a few days) there are better ways than the route they put you on:rolleyes:

My son said he paid $99 for his last Magellan update.

My MIO came with the latest map release (April 07) so I should be good for a while. I had read that the new Starfire chipset was hot and they are right. Very fast updates and no loss of signal even in a heavy rain.
