I got a huge case of trioxane from my Scouting days Xcusme.(recently retired) Be glad to send ya some. Beats the heck out of those flint knappers. :D

What been doing, hitting the MRE's again?? HA! Thanks for the offer, but I have to keep this primitive. Besides, some parent might bitcK about all "those chemical fumes"! :eek: :eek:

Just a suggestion <br />Look up slate quarry in Poultney, VT or Granville, NY or Whitehall, NY and ask to speak with the quarry. "trash slate" is considered trash when it contains flint and there are piles of it in most quarries that are normally thrown away or crushed up. I am sure you might find a boyscout supporter that would be willing to help.<br /><br />Yes trioxane was nasty toxic stuff LOL but I used to heat my c rations with c-4 (one of the perks of working with high explosives) when they were still in cans.<br /><br />The other posssibility would be Dixie gun works for clean manageable size pieces.

Now if you have access to a blacksmith.... make a steel out of an old rat tail file. Works great and is a common thing for the re-enactment groups around here. <br /><br />Glad I could help.
