I have been given a 1982 19 ft. galaxy in good shape with a 180 i.o. omc. I have never had it in the water but was informed it has a cracked block because of milky substance in the oil. is it worth doing anything with?

Could be just a blown head gasket. Drain the oil, see if it's full of water and do compression check. I'd pull the plugs and see if it cranks over first, in case theres any water in one of the cylinders. What do you have to lose...it's free right?

Thanks for your response. It is full of water. If I drained everything. Any posibility of temporary use until it died or is that just a stupid idea?

Err, not likely. But there is that aisle at Kragen with cans of stuff that include the word "Miracle" in the title.

If it did start...I'd go UP river if I were you...easier to float back down to your trailer.:D

:confused:thanks again. If I get bold I'll plan on spending the night without a time deadline.

Re: Any hope?

If a 4 cyl 180, sounds like a 470, does it have a heat exchanger? Is the intake on the starboard side and the exhaust on the port side. If a 470, chances are that the block is not cracked (cus it is, supposed to be, filled with antifreeze). Most likely a head gasket. Gromulin is right if you can get it to turn over do a compression check. If just a head gasket, you might get lucky. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

O.K. ... thanks for your input. I have not invested anything into this yet just trying to see if its worth looking into.
