How do we know gear ratio? Something is wrong with the numbers or that prop is a POS.

Re: Any ideas on how to pick up speed?

I have that same engine/drive in an '86 Cheetah 18' bowrider. I'm not sure what the weight is but I can only get 33-35 mph according to the speedo not GPS, but I plan to check it with TomTom soon. My tach is broke so I have no idea how many RPM, but any way you slice it, I figured that boat should go 40 easy with a 20 pitch. Doesn't feel very fast to me either.

i can get over 4000 rpm, but never tried it all out, as far down as it would go with it. If it does over 40, im pretty happy with it anyways. the 19 pitch prop has good speed and pulls skiers and tubes pretty well...i didnt expect that much of a balance out of it. i figured it would be one or the other.

Edit: i thought mine has the 1.68 ratio (still not sure), which would put it well over 40 mph, even at 4000 rpms.

How much does your boat weigh? I have a 305 with a 17 right now and want to put a 19 on it.... maybe a 21. Haven't had a speedo on her yet but it "feels" like 45ish. It's the trihull in my avatar.
