i inherited a 1969 evinrude 9.5 hp ob. the metal tank has not been used in several years and may have some crud/rust in it. is there an in-line fuel filter somewhere between the tank, hose and carb? it looks like i could cut the line under the cover and splice in a small in-line filter that would be easy to view and replace as necessary. thanks

I have a '64 Evinrude 9.5hp that has a fuel filter on it. It's the glass bowl style. If your motor doesn't have one, you could install any in-line fuel filter anywhere you want it, and like you say, make it accessable. There probably is a filter inside the tank at the bottom of the pick-up tube also.

I'd put a clear inline filter in the hose before it connects to the mtr. That way I could monitor it and see what's going on.

HI bowrider98. Try one of these:

I put one on my '61 10hp between the fuel pump and the carb, so that the fuel pump is pumping fuel into the filter and it works great. It filters the fuel and lets me see that my fuel pump is working too. A lot of folks, myself included, have also removed the stone-like filter in the glass bowl as it often causes problems in the fuel delivery system over time. The carb will work fine without it so long as you put and inline filter in. Plus, the new, plastic in-line filters are cheap ($3 or so) and available at any autoparts store should you ever need to replace it. I've put one on all my motors and they work great. Good luck.
