ANY INFO FROM THIS PIC WOULD HELP 6hp evinrude

I pretty much know nothing about the motor, don't have it yet.
From the picture I'm hoping someone can tell me a couple things about it.
1. year
2. long or short shaft
3. will it work ok on a 8 foot inflatable (zodiak) rated for a 4 hp

Only reason I ask... the price is right !

1) Don't know, give us the model number.
2) Short shaft.
3) It would probably fit, but the boat is only rated for 4 hp, transom may not take the extra horse power.

thanks, the year is not really important anyways. But the short shaft is forsure, so are you positive it's a short shaft ? I have to drive 3+ hrs to get it and I want to be sure. Also you say the transome may not take the extra power, if I were to take it easy on the throttle would the actual weight of the motor play a factor in the wear on the transome ?

Measure the distance from the transom clamp where it mounts to the transom, to the cavation plate, should measure about 15" for short shaft, about 20" long shaft.
Have the owner give you the measurement.
The engine will weigh more than a 4 hp, don't know how much more.

EDIT:
Have the owner give you the model number, it will tell for sure if it is a short or long shaft.
I don't see the 5" extension in the picture.

I had a 4 hp evinrude and I now have a 6 hp evinrude...I doubt there is more than 10 lbs of difference if that....very similar, but the 4 hp turned around for reverse!!! didnt like that!!

and it didnt have nuetral ..yikes start and you are off!

I have a 1969 and i sold my buddy a minty 1968, both were a lighter blue...

agree the model # will answer all your questions. it is located on marker plate, what is the number??? with out it, we cannot give you, accurate info.

Yeah unfortunatly I dont have the motor yet, still trying to decide if it's safe to run on a boat rated for a 4hp. It's hard to look past the price... $275 CDN.

Assuming it still has the original cowl... it looks to be a 1972. Getting the model & s/n will tell you for sure.

Trust me you won't take it easy for long. Have a good look at your transom and see if it looks strong and if it is able to be strengthened. I doubt the difference in HP. will matter too much in regard to torque but it might just be heavy at the back of your boat. Most inflatables I've seen are able to take on a lot of weight compared to say an aluminum. Best of luck. A trip to the Rocky Mountains is never a waste. Rick.

what difference does it make what year it is????

after all this time the year doesnt matter any more, when they all look so similar you cant tell the difference...1967, 1970 ,1978, if they are in the same condition thay are worth the same value....

you can find those motors for that price very often...

$200-$400 is very common

1977 and up have cdi ignition...if you prefer that over points

Going by the cowling design and paint color, I would say it is a 1972. Doesn't mean someone didn't lose the original cowling towing their boat along the highway somewhere and found a replacement from a different year that fits.

It is, for sure, a short shaft.

Ya I'll have to take a better look at the transom, it is only a one year old boat, made by seamor marine in BC. I still haven't found anyone who has done this before. I just don't want to blow my transom off while cruising.
