i was just given a johnson 40 h.p. model#rdsl-23 serial#2194466 it has spark and fires but wont fully run. i was also wondering if anyone could tell me the year. also is there a compression release if so i dont think its hooked up help there would also help. thanks for the help and GOD bless

Hi flatliner, Welcome to the board.<br /><br />Your motor is a 1961 model.<br /><br />When you say it fires, do you have a strong blue spark on each cylinder. If you do then take a squirt bottle and put some pre mixed fuel in it. squirt some pre mix in each carb and see if the motor picks up. If the motor runs better squirting the pre mix in the carb, then it's time to rebuild the carbs or at least give them a good cleaning.<br /><br />There is no compression release.
