I thought my boat was fixed by the mech who worked on it a couple months ago. I just found out that when he was able to get the 6k rpm out of it that he did it on a flush adapter.

Are any of you guys in my area? I need someone to fix this thing. I can't do it.

Give us something to go on! What's the issue? There may be nothing wrong with the engine. If it has a prop with too much pitch it will not reach 6000 rpm no matter what a mechanic does. If it did before and now doesn't that's a different story. If the boat is bottom fowled that will also slow it down. Check your local yellow pages for Marinas and Boat Dealers.

My 1990 120 looper has been a soap opera since I bought it. The combined posts of OBJ, RJohnson, Walker, Joe Reeves, rodbolt, JB, and others would exceed the amount of pages in The House of the Seven Gables.

I need to find a mechanic. The yellow pages get me lots of dealers that won't touch a 1990 Johnson. The mech I had work on it is a very nice guy, but reving on a flush adapter is a basic outboard 101 no no.

Be careful, or it might turn into another version of the "Soup Nazi" Seinfeld episode. I've had the same auto mechanic for nearly 10 years; wish I could say the same for my boat. I've been through several bad experiences, ranging from not wanting to honor a warranty to slow service to being told to f-ck off by my mechanic after my boat sat in his yard for 6 weeks for winterization. When the demand exceeds the supply, it pretty much gives them a license to treat you however they want, because if you don't come back, there's a line of people waiting behind you. Good luck.
