Re: Any known problems w/ 1993 Johnson 90HP?
The 1978 140HP broke when removing the lower exhaust tube housing. The long bolts and the front four bolts came out OK, but the rear studs were stuck tight. The nuts came off easy but the leg would not drop. When it finally let go one stud stayed where it should in the upper block. The other stud decided to stay with the lower leg, and in doing so broke the block off in a chunk inside where the stud was threaded into the block.
Could it be fixed? I suppose so, but it would require disassembly of the power head and some welding, redrilling and tapping and surfacing off the block face. Not worth the expense to me. Maybe I will part it out. The lower gearcase is good and so is the power tilt/trim. I bought a new motor for the trim unit before the broken block, so that sits here without a usefull purpose.
Ah, such is life I guess!
