Re: Any musicians here?

... sounds like you have GAS. Bassist here. 1.5 years. Play in a small garage band called Stubborn Goats. Recently picked up a Schecter 4 string axe and more recently purchased the Lexicon Omega interface to lay down some bass lines to 5 new SG songs. From what I have recorded so far, it sounds pretty crisp with good low tone playback. However I have a long way to go in both playing and recording.

cheers

Re: Any musicians here?

You have no clue on how Guitar hero was a blessing and a curse for guitars teachers.......tons of snotty nose little video game junkies want to play guitar since they slay at Guitar Hero........90% drop out of lessons after 2-3 lessons and figuring out it( The Game) has nothing to do with playing a real guitar

I am a gear junkie.......Play a Epi Les Paul Customized Studio, (My first real guitar) A washburn 12 string Acoustic, A Charvel 375 deluxe and I trading some paintball stuff this weekend for a Schlecter Diamond series.

I have a laney AOR lead series 50 watt tube head, a 100 watt Carvin tube amp and 3 4x12" bottoms.

I own a Roland Juno G Synth. and Beri. 12 chaneel 800watt powered mixxer and 2 15" speakers, A old pearl drumset, A full lighting system with all the bells and wistles, A ton of recording gear and so many odds and ends I could open a store.

Yes, I be drummer, I know how to hit things.

Seriously I've been doing the percussion thing for about 19 years now(since I was a wee little thing). I hate being called a drummer, they can be so mindless, I take pride in what i do.

I started playin in band in fifth grade, and all through my school career. In high school I was in marching band and held the Center Snare/section leader position for sophomore, junior and senior years. We competed heavily as most marching bands do, and won many accreditations here in Ohio. At our peak we were ranked 4th in the state. I also played in every band I could find, including, concert, mixed symphonic, pep, and Jazz band.

Funny story with the pep band we were playing the almamater one day and the director pi$$ed me off, so I broke into a rock beat right in the middle of it. Kept time, and kept it "tasteful". He didn't approve, however the entire gymnasium gave a standing ovation for it, even the principal commented, "that was different". He never made m mad again.......

I also participated in percussion ensembles during the winter months, as well as solo competitions. My best rank there was 9th in the state my senior year. Not to shabby if I do say so myself.

My senior year and and for a few years after I marched indoor percussion with "Matrix IMPE" during the winter. In the summer months I marched DCI (Drum Corps International) with Both The Cavaliers (snare) and Bluecoats (snare) until I aged out. I have gone back with a few area high schools and taught marching band working primarily with the battery section of the drum line.

I haven't sat behind a drum kit in a few years, actually it's funny this thread came up, I just pulled out my 5 piece kit from storage, and will be setting it back up this weekend. I miss playing, and hope to find a local band looking for a percussionist. I enjoy playing everything from jazz, to rock, to rockabilly, to Latin.

Re: Any musicians here?

Started out on an old 5 pc drum kit my dad bought for himself when I was a kid...He had to give it to me since he couldnt get me off of it..lol
Goof around now with my Fender Strat, Christmas present from my hunny Diane! Love hitting the distortion pedal and craking out some old school metal.
First guitar I've had in a long time..Last axe before this was 12 years ago and was an old 60 sumthing Fender Mustang, even picked up a Mustang Jr from a pawn shop..Played em through a killer Rickenbacker amp that had the cleanest **** Dale surf tone & reverb! I googled up a pic of the Mustang since some kids wont know what they looked like..I also wanted to bring back some happy memmories..sigh

I can fool around on the piano (grands have more room..lol)

My dad was really talented, played lead clarinet for a band that opened up for Benny Goodman back in the day..funny, the kids used to play air clarinet before the guitar took over in the early 50's..

I was lucky enough to get a small faint trace of his talent but will never call my self a musician...

I can play piano a bit. Nothing impressive. I do enjoy playing but I had to ditch my piano when I moved. Been watching craigslist for a full size keyboard.

Re: Any musicians here?

don't know if i'd call myself a musician. but i do hear music in my mind a lot....

learned piano when i was real young. mostly got music theory which was fine. except i wanted to learn to play at that age, not get the theory. hind sight the theory was fine though.
i don't play piano anymore, though do have a couple of guitars...
my stash includes an 72 acoustic alverez 12 string http://www.elderly.com/new_instrume...egent-special-solid-top-12-strin--RD20S12.htm . a mid 70's round abouts gibson L6-s http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...Q&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=4&ct=image&cd=1 that the previous owner buggered up the oem pickups and 6 way selector in lew of emg pickups and just a 3 way selector. also a 63' harmony bobcat 15v (maybe 15W, early production. it's certanly not full vibrato, as in only tunes down, maybe a wamey?)in sunburst red, could only find a online pic in gold, oh well. http://harmony.demont.net/guitars/H15V/86.htm. 2 amps, a pevey practice and a pevey bandit 112... ok amps, but i'd rather have a twin reverb if i had my druthers.... my dream guitar would be a sg w/vibrato tail.. always liked a telecaster too.. oh well, maybe in my next life..

sure wish a few of ya folks lived closer by. i've always wanted to play in a band, and never have...

Re: Any musicians here?

Let's see, I play the radio, the cd player, and the computer, but have not mastered an iPod yet! :D

I am more of a sound engineer than a musician. I mix the sound and make the musicians and singers sound better than they really are.

Art, That is just like Ronda......Loves music more than even I, Can master a mixing board in moments and has mixed for bands on $100,000 systems in the past. she also has a ear for musical talent.......But not ounce of it herself :) I think sound engineers are included in the musician club.

Re: Any musicians here?

EZmobee, you should post that your looking for one on Craigslist.....Its how I found mine. Also you can get a decent Synth with nice piano sounds all day for $200 on CL. Just do your research what might be an awesome Synth/Keyboard for me might suck for you......If you played piano you probably like full wieghted keys, While synth players dont like that at all.

Ziggy I love old, vintage stuff.....To me it sound like you have some treasures.

Re: Any musicians here?

Yes. Didn't my handle give it away? I've been playing guitar since 1971 and bass since 1976. I played guitar and bass at church for 8 years. I played bass in wedding and bar bands for eight years. I essentially stopped playing for about 4 years when I got engaged. Then I did community theater productions for 6 years. I goofed around with ukulele when I was a kid and p*ssed my mother off because after screwing around with her old one for half an hour I was better than she had been after two years. A few years ago, my daughter's choir teacher recruited me to play tenor banjo in the choir's spring concert. I didn't play banjo and I didn't even own one. Well, I had to learn -- I couldn't let the kids down, could I?

Deep breath...

I played in two Christian rock bands between 1995 and 2000. In 1999, I got recruited to play lead guitar at the church we attend now. I'm still playing and I'm having more fun than ever. Oh, and I'm going to play guitar in the local community theater's production of "Grease". I'm an effects addict, I build my own gear, I, I... uhhh.. have to get some work done sometime...

Oh, yeah, I suppose SOMEONE will ask about gear...
OK, I have an Ibanez RG321 hardtail and an Ibanez Artcore hollowbody. I have a Takamine acoustic 12 and a Korean clone of a Martin 6-string. I have an old Ibanez bass with a terminally warped neck (I play the one at church on the occasions I play bass). My guitar amps are a Peavey Classic 30 and a Fender Champion 600 I use for practice. I also have access to a 50-watt Music Man. My bass amp is a Gallien-Krueger 400B into a 12-in JBL. I use a rather large pedalboard that I built, and... let's just say that my playing style is basically progressive rock and I'm a modulation nut. That should give you an idea of what's on that pedalboard...

Re: Any musicians here?

axeslinger1957, I played in a Christian Hard Rock/ Worship Band from 2000-2002. (Played in many churches in the last 8 yrs)It was pretty awesome and it truley was alot more fun then all the other bands I was in back in the day( 90's), playing the clubs and party scene. Well I think alot of that is because there is a large section of those days that are a bit blurry :)

Craigslist has been great for me lately. I sold one of my aquariums for $500 ( I paid $50 and traded a smaller Aquarium for it) It was a nice set up but I had 2 and they are 120 gallons apiece with room for only one. Turned around and bought the Roland Juno G I just got and bought my wife a XM radio set up ( I had $100+ plus stashed as well) Not only did I score a awesome Synth in the deal but she got that for her Birthday plus I pay for subscription......And Im a hero

Sunday I am supposed to trade a bunch of paintball gear I have for a Schecter Diamond series guitar.( Love this guitar).....Fair trade worth wise. Thing is, I have a garage full of stuff I never use so wife said "sell that junk or trade it, garages are for cars"......What do woman know?

All I need for my studio is a nice P.C. a few new software programs and a new effects unit fo my guitar..........And I will have completed phase one.........But since it took me so long to complete phase one, I now have to start all over because much of what I aquired in the begining of phase one is now obsolete.......At least thats what I tell her everytime I say " This is the last piece of equipment I will need".......and two months later.........I need something new...............She says there is a difference between need and want..........and I agree........unless its music gear.

Re: Any musicians here?

Low brass here. Tuba, baritone horn, trombone and little alto horn. Something I picked up in high school and didn't do for around twenty years, but I'm playing again. I've got TAS (trombone acquisition syndrome) pretty bad. At last count I had over 40 of them.

Re: Any musicians here?

I played lead on a fender strat for 20 yrs then switched over to keyboard,
I use an M1 keyboard with a Roland U110 sample player, they re-play digitally sampled instruments, the pianno samples are of real steinways etc.

I used to play a Roland U20 and the sounds were brilliant but it fried ,
the U110 is basically the head or elec guts of the U20 minus the keyboard part.
Learning to program these units is difficult and requires second party books that explain it all.

The keyboard is input into the computer running Steinberg's Cubase MIDI program, 16 track recording, just go back and keep laying tracks then edit.

Playback is done thru the keyboard, it will play 6 instruments simultaneously.
I find it a lot easier to compose with a keyboard.
Never had lessons, can't read sheet and don't give a sheet.

MIDI guitars are useless, tried them out. Keyboard is the way.
