I was considering a getting a second boat for just like 2-4 people to go rip around in and have fun. I am already going to be getting a bigger deck boat but it would be fun to have something a bit smaller to tear around in as well. It would be nice if it could pull a skier.. I was looking at the Stingray 180RX and some other small boats. What do you guys think?

Anything out there worth it for around 10K or less?

How about the SeaDoo jet boats?

The little Sea-Doos look like a hoot to me, though I have never run one. Another small package that would be big fun is a RIB with OB motor. Unfortunately those will exceed the $10k. Think you will find a new Sea-Doo also exceeds $10k.

Kelly Cook

You would be open to a large selection if you could consider used.

ratfish listed what i was going to post. 'boating magazine' ran an article on the bayliner last year and the stingray this year. their evaluation stated that both had pros and cons, and made it a toss up as far as a clear winner.

You can pick up a Bayliner 175 or 185 for that price range. Nice little boats at an affordable price. The only engine choice I'm aware of on those boats is the 3.0L but that should be plenty of power for those light little boats.

I looked at that 10k Stingray at the boston boat show last week, not my style boat but for the price it would be great to get a new boat with a wattentee and just get out on the lake, the one I looked at was 10,300 the only other boat that I saw priced that cheap what a Bayliner, maybe about 17feet, i didn't look at that one, the name says it all.

Good luck, I'd go with the little stingray, looked like a good value.

Ryan T. you are ignorant... "didn't look at that one, the name says it all"

You are the type that spread all these false inuendos that Bayliner makes an inferior boat. Try doing some research... the web is filled with articles and reviews how good the new Bayliners are built and handle!

pevuto- Welcome! It looks like you are going to get a new bayliner and that's great, but please don't bring every old thread on bayliners back from the dead. Look at the dates before you reply!

Re: Any new small sport boats at or under 10K??

I have looked at the dates, and my intent is to indeed bring them back from the dead. They are excellent topics for someone like me looking at buying a Bayliner. I am hoping to get one logical comment from someone out there as to why I would pay 4-5k more for either a Glastron or Larson, when their most affordable boats have the exact same engine, less features and worse finish than the Bayliner. That is, a good reason other than... its not a Bayliner.. ugh, if only I had a dollar for everytime I have read that lame comment.

Alas, to date, even the most true Bayliner Bashers have not been able to respond to my challenge. Which is a good thing for me I suppose... I can rest assured my purchase is a good one!

Re: Any new small sport boats at or under 10K??

peevuto,

A most interesting quest, you know, trying to convince people who have been screwed out of thousands of dollars on a slick sales pitch and a colorful paint job, and a low price that they should salute your purchase.

Well here you go, cheers.

Now you can begin writing checks to those who carried the freight for you while beta testing outdated and underpowered boats with the force engines. (Buyer beware, and you get what you pay for is cold solice for those who fell for the sales pitch) For gel jobs that faded in 2 years, for warranties unsettled, weekends lost to down time, to establishing a new low in quality and fit and finish. What about the hulls that blistered away and the establishment of cleats without backing plates as the norm, seats made of pressboard and gauges that are no longer supported by the mfg. Wiring that qualified as a hack job, windows that yellowed, bow rails that rusted, hardware like hinges that were misaleigned and of such poor quality they simply just fell off. You know the people who had to add thousands of dollars to have a hull design that wasn't seaworthy.

Yes, it was on the backs of these "Bashers" that Bayliner was able to thrive and continue on manufacturing boats. Now that their busness model has "changed", and have a package you happen to like, you expect everyone to rally around the current product offering and support it with their blessing? Grow up, and respect the opinions of others. You are coming off as petty. If you happen to like the Bayliner product, ok, they have made probably more boats than any other active mfg'r, and many of those boats made many people very happy. MANY DIDN'T. Why do you think the simple mention of the name evokes emotional responses? THEY SCREWED ALOT OF PEOPLE!

I am sorry you need total strangers to validate your purchase, but you should be happy you bought something you investigated and studied and feel comfortable with. Now move forward and take advantage of the comradery and knowledge available from all the members here, whether they are Bayliner lovers or not. :)

Re: Any new small sport boats at or under 10K??

Very well said Pointer94:

I almost got a 17' Bayliner in 89, but thye fact that they wouldn't sell the boat without a motor killed the deal as I had a Merc 1250 that I was going to hang on it. The mechanic that put my motor on a 17' Chris Craft show'd me how flimsy the Bayliners of that time were but taking the side and shaking it. that boat flex'd all ofer the place, then he did the same to my Chris Craft and there was no flex at all. Now, the Chris Craft hull that I had wasn't the most efficient, but man, what a ride. Smoother than the glastron I have now, but the Glastron is a little more than half the weight of the Chris Craft and with a Merc 115 (Prop Rating) man, does it fly.

http://www.myfishingpictures.com/showphoto.php?photo=13003&sort=7&thecat=500&password=

Craig

Re: Any new small sport boats at or under 10K??

peevuto- If you would take the time to read the dusty old threads you're pulling up, you would see that I usually defend the bayliner name as having improved their product from what it used to be, which was pretty poor compared to the competition. They made a cheap entry level boat that many here either owned or tryed to keep running for their owners. Combined with the fact that many of the b-liners had the worst outboard made hanging off the stern and you'll begin to see why people have an opinion on the company. How many bayliners have you owned? Worked on? o.k. how many boats of any brand have you owned? Thought so.

Tell you what, why don't you try to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge available on this site and quit trying to be the Bayliner savior. You're not the first and won't be the last to undertake this endeavor, but you're just spinning your wheels here.

Re: Any new small sport boats at or under 10K??

I have to laugh quietly to myself, because I am NOT a Bayliner advocate, as you portray me to be. AND I was most certinaly not seeking any kind of validation on my purchase. I simply wanted to know if there was any substance to all the Bayliner bashing that I have read before finally buying the Bayliner 175 XT.

I now have come to the realization that the Bayliner Bashing comes from happenings well in the past... a time (like Pointer94 so eloquently points out), I am not concerned with. I am concerned if there are any quality issues TODAY, not 25 years ago. After all, why would I be concerned with how a Bayliner was made 25 years ago, if I am purchasing new? And why do Bayliner Bashers not make it clear in their posts that they are bashing Bayliner of Yester-year? I have read many posts that say "Bayliner sucks", or "don't buy it, its a Bayliner", which by todays standards, is just plain ignorant and not true. Its one thing to hold a grudge towards a company for your bad purchase, but those types of quotes can mis-lead new boaters like me into thinking that the Bayliner product is not a good product TODAY, which it most definitely is.

So, to all those that 'beta tested' the inferior Bayliner products of old, it is I that salute you. You have allowed Bayliner to refine their product so they are now of high quality, AND affordable, which allows young families such as mine to venture into this wonderful pastime.

If its solace you need, just look towards the high quality product that Bayliner is putting out TODAY and take heart in knowing that you contributed to getting them where they are, and are partially responsible for allowing young families like mine to enjoy the boating experience.

Personally, my comfort will come from knowing that I have helped clarify this bashing once and for all for other people who are thinking of getting into boating with Bayliner.

Cheers!

I take the advise of a 30 year marine mechanic that told me to stay away from a bayliner. As for anyone that has one and likes it, more power to them.

peevuto,Instead of making a bunch of driveby statements and condescending comments to other forum memebers, why don't you rather enlighten us on some of the specific finer points of the Bayliner line and where they have used critisizm of their past product to improve on their latest designs and features.

I am concerned if there are any quality issues TODAY, not 25 years ago.

Then in the same post you state So, to all those that 'beta tested' the inferior Bayliner products of old, it is I that salute you. You have allowed Bayliner to refine their product so they are now of high quality, AND affordable, which allows young families such as mine to venture into this wonderful pastime.

I don't get it.Seems you want to answer your own questions and concerns and chastise anyone elses opinion. If your mind is made up ,go for it.After reading all of your blather on this topic as well as the Bayliner topic,I suggest if you want to troll,go get the dang Bayliner and do some. Just stop whining.

Better to have people think you a fool than open your mouth and proving them right!
