When you own an older boat, u gotta expect things to go wrong. It's the nature of the beast. You just have to keep up on the maintenance. Mine's 22 yrs. old, & if things go as planned, next year I'm selling. Will I buy another? Probably. I'm serously considering going with an outboard. I'm just tired of sterndrive powered maintenance issues. We'll see.

I have had my fair share of issues as well. But I believe mine result from lack of preventative maintenance by the previous owner. At the same time I have also had some HUGE strokes of good luck. I just say roll with the punches.

FBPirate, you hit the nail on the head. All of the problems with my outdrive have been due to lack of preventative maintenance. I should have known better, but being a first boat, I can't really complain too much. I knew nothing of those dang gimbal bearings and u-joints and such at the time of purchase.

I can't really say I have good luck, but very stable. I am very happy to still have my job, things got slow in FL (20 hrs a week) so they gave me the option to travel elsewhere and work on their dime. No complaints, company truck, gas card, company-paid hotel room (nice ones, too), and per diem on top of the overtime. My company may not be the best one out there, but they are a very good company to work for. Now, if only they gave me a "bonus" for that new outdrive. . .
