Any opinions on IMP boats?

I'm looking at this boat on craigslist

http://loz.craigslist.org/boa/1835378984.html

I don't think its worth the asking price of 2500 but it appears to be in good condition and I'm trying to trade for it so the price is less important than the boat itself.

How well would it do on rough lake water?

How hard will parts be to find for the OMC outdrive?

Are the OMC drives very tough or do they need repairs often?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

That was a desirable boat when I was a kid, some of my neighbors had them. One still has hers. I think we saw them because the marina around the bend was a dealer.

Keep shopping...... overpriced and OMC is a big negative factor

Too bad she is running that OMC set up..I like the old IMP's..
But parts are hard to find and skilled shops that can work on them are almost non existint

I guess there is no way of swapping drives is there? Ha I really like the design of the boat and the size that it is makes me think it would handle the 2'+ wakes we have pretty well.

It is possible, you need a mercruiser engine + Outdrive, complete...
Advisable? well how much time & $$$$$ do you want to throw at it..

BUT..(devils advocate here)
There are guys running the OMC's..If this set up is in EXCELLENT condition drive train wise..you could get a few years service & fun out of her then decide if you want to pursue a heart transplant.
I would find a mercruiser or volva powered boat with the same hull layout as this IMP myself...

I guess the hunt is back on.

Maybe I'll just finish my 14' fishing boat and risk getting swamped on the lake for this summer and find a newer, nicer, boat for next summer.

Bob, Lets not go there again. :D

Theres nothing wrong with owning a boat with a OMC Chevy block or Cobra outdrive. :)
I can still get ALL parts that I'll ever need here on iboats !!!. :)

Just stay away from the King Cobra.
