Hey guys i recently got a '83 Glastron with a 115 Merc or so I think on it. The serial number on the transom mount is to messed up to read it so i was wondering if there was any other number on this to tell me exactly what it is, or even if it was in-fact a 115 and not a 110 or something. The owner said it was a '79 but I want to make sure before i order wrong parts.

Thanks for the help.

Check the block where the crankcase cover meets the block, about 1/2 way up on the transfer cover side. There might be a part number that you could look up on the crowleymarine.com web site.

'79 motor will have six coils and no distributor.

It's not a '79 then cause it has a distributor. Do you know of any other tell tale ways to find out if it is a 115 or maybe it is a 110 with 115 covers on it.

I couldnt cross any part numbers. It says Typhoon on the block, sorry for all the questions im new with all this and want to make sure of what engine I have.

Thanks for the response

You should PM Laddies. Tell him about the "Typhoon" markings. You have exceeded my depth of knowledge.

Sorry to disagree with Chris but I own a 1979 115, (that I know for an absolute fact is a 1979) and it definately absolutely for sure has a distributor. The inline4 s went to individual coils in 1978 or so, (have one of those tooooooo BTW), but the inline6 s did not go to individual coils until 1980, (I have a 1981 with the 6 coils, so I know of what I speak here), n' I don't know much else. :)

Sorry ta nit pick again Chris but "Typhoon" is the old 99.x cubic inch inline6 silver block 1250 (1968 and 1969), [I own two of those].

The 1150 and 1350 silver blocks had no name on the block casting, [I own one of those].

"Tiger" was the 89.x cubic inch 900, 950, 1000 of 1962-1969 fame, (I own three of those old girls).

The black blocks did not have a name but serial numbers were on the transfer port side, (just to the rear of the fuel pump), as Laddies said and you have said to me as well.

Sorry ta be such a stickler fer detail, n' I don't know nearly what you know about most things about Mercs but I do know about 1967-1981 inline4 s and the same vintage inline 6 s. :D JR

That block would have been silver, (that someone could have painted black if it is now black) with the two ganged fuel pumps on the side of the block and the block would say "Typhoon".

You should not have an exhaust tuner in the mid section either as 1250(s) didn't have those in 1968 or 1969.

I think the 1973 and later blocks were the black blocks with the single fuel pump at the base of the cowling (around the powerhead).

They also did not have names on the black block castings.
