Re: Any race fans out there?

I agree kind of mixed feelings seeing Jr. take the lead and hear the crowd cheer knowing they are cheering for his name more then the driver...

Has anyone noticed the empty seats at the racetracks? Seems more and more each race

You want to see how bad the "name" thing is, go to a race at Talladega. You would swear he was a 'Bama boy, when in fact he came from Kanapolis NC! Little E even talked about opening up a new track in Mobile. I've been to that track many times. It's funny, if Jr gets knocked out of the race 1/2 the fans leave before the end. Talk about a mass exodus. It's nuts down there. I was there when Gordon won and the fans pummeled his car with beer cans.

I don't think there is one track that sells out anymore. You can walk up to the ticket booth and buy a seat that day for the race. Bristol used to sell out way in advance. It may take you a couple of years just to get a ticket. Even they don't sell out anymore. Part of it, I think, is the fact NASCAR peaked a couple of years ago. The "new" fans had their fix and have moved on to something else. The economy isn't helping either, of course. I think even more than ticket prices, alot of tracks have been giving deals lately, is that accomodations double during race weekend. If you stay in a motel for a couple of nights, that can break ya when you add it to the cost of everything else.

One thing I would like NASCAR to do is "stop" messing with the cars every year. I guess fuel injection is on the horizon. Is that for next year? They also changed the points system and # of cars in the chase. I think it's 10 now and I heard something about a wildcard? I'm lost this year on that end. Does anyone know what the max points a driver can get in a race? I believe it used to be 180. I know that changed.

Well I am an old fashioned old timer. I raced with people named Unser, Petty, Shelby and once even a gentleman named Moss.

They were a breed apart from we mere mortals.

I do have favorite drivers now; Sebastian Vettel, Danica Patrick and anyone named Unser or Andretti.

I don't "hate" anyone who drives racecars. That is a juvenile concept, and I never rejoice at anyone's misfortune on the track. That annoys me mightily.

I wish only the best for all of them. Been there, done that and got thoroughly whipped more often than not. I would be happy if they could all win. Just getting there deserves wins.

I listened to the 600 on my way home from the 500. Watched the Monaco replay this morning after cleaning up the motor home. I know the 500 and Monaco were great races and the 600 sounded like it was as well. Great weekend of racing.

I have always had a hard time picking a "favorite" driver in any series because I'm wishy-washy I guess. I wore a Danica cap at the Indy 500 so maybe that says something. It was lot of fun when when she took the lead for awhile.
