I still find docks where boats are loading and unloading using ramps an endless source of amusement. The whole process from pulling up to the dock to getting the boat off or on the trailer quickly separates the experienced from the inexperienced. Throw in a strong tide and its an even bigger spectacle. I have had my own share of the fun below is the top 3 for me:
1) Saw a guy forget to put in his drain plug, dropped the boat in the water, his buddies pulled the boat all the way to the end of the dock and tied it up, he drove off to park the trailer. They got back were all in the boat and it kept getting lower and lower in the water. Someone figures out the plug is missing and he goes running off to get the trunk. By the time he gets lined back up the boat has already sank and is sitting on the ramp full of water. I'll never know how they got it out.
2) I forgot to undo my rear trailer straps once. Was a strong outgoing tide, had an 18' ski boat with the drain plug in. Entire boat started floating with the trailer still attached and heading out with the tide, pulling the truck towards the water. Fortunately managed to floor it and get it back on dry land before it got much worse.
3) First time ever driving a boat, untied from the dock before starting the engine. Was also my first boat and a complete POS. Engine not starting, strong outgoing tide again and drifting powerless away from the dock. Whole boat started doing a slow turn and was floating into a much more expensive boat parked on the other side. Somehow managed to get it started and figured out how to steer free before hitting the other boat. Broke down on the water less than 30 min later and had to be towed back.
