If you want real cooling you need to go to a compressor style. Like a Engle or ARB fridge. They aren't cheap. New they are somewhere around $550, but they will freeze if you turn them down, and they are extremely energy efficient.

Yup, you're gonna have to decide if the cost of an Engel is worth it to you... They are not cheap!

I freeze drinking water bottles, those lay flat on the bottom and work nicely and dont take up excessive room.

Yes, either those or those fluid filled ice packs if you are worried about melted ice. For us, I just pack the sandwich stuff in a Tupperware container so that they don't get wet.

I'm going to freeze two milk gals of salt water and see what a couple less degree's do for making ice last and label not potable .
