I'm going to replace my fuel pump as part of some troubleshooting I've done on another thread. My engine serial # is 0M643181. I've already removed the plastic cover. These are the steps that I'm assuming I should take just based on the pictures in the mercury catalog.
1. Disconnect pigtail.
2. Disconnect threaded end
3. Remove pump from elbow that connects to the fuel cooler
I'm guessing assembly is the opposite. I was planning on replacing the o-rings on the elbow that connects the pump to the cooler. Should I lube the o-rings with anything? Any other advice?
I'm trying out a fuel pump from Quantum. I wasn't able to source one from airtex. I spoke to a tech at airtex and he told me that their part number was no longer available. I think airtex and carter are merging or have merged and part numbers may be changing. He couldn't tell me if they would become available in the future.
Quantum does offer a lifetime warranty and they did offer to bench test the pump. He said they sell a lot of them and don't get many back. I guess time will tell.
