I always check to see if they are balanced after I sharpen the blades.

The old nail in the wall and spin trick?
What angle do you sharpen the blades, 22.5*/ 45*

Not much advice on sharpening but...

check the spindles, lube all zerk fittings and steering rack. Check belts also. Remove buildup from bottom of deck. and make sure the deck is level.

Just going out for the final putty knife scrape down and then power wash.

I never really worked on what angle ..... just used the body grinder and went for what I remember it used to look like ;)

I do use a thin edge to balance the blade on and whatever side is heavier (low side) gets ground again until the blade sits level.

I head for the gravel pile at the end of my driveway, aim the discharge shoot to the neighbors yard and let er rip, underside now ready for paint, throw blades away and buy new.
JUST KIDDING JUST KIDDING JUST KIDDING!!!! (#57 gravel works great)

Well that was fun, went out to do the cutting deck and instead learned how to put a thrown track back on an excavator.
went back, took 30-40 min per blade to sharpen them, a quick weld job plus the scraping (no power wash though), tomorrow install time. :)

For $14 a blade I buy new Gator blades every 3 years. :)
They love to chew threw rocks.

I agree with Summer Fun. The gator blades are GREAT. I get the ones made by Oregon on Ebay.

You could do as my father-in-law does. After EVERY use he washes AND wipes the entire mower.

Also he sharpens the blades before putting it away for the winter.

His 17 year old Cadet looks and works like new.

Washing a deck everytime you use it usually isn't the best idea. It can do more harm than good if you leave any wet grass on the deck.

Anyway, here's my tip: I spray the bottom of my deck with rattlecan bedliner material. The grass doesn't stick as bad and the bedliner doesn't get beaten off by rocks as easily as paint.
