Hey all, I posted a thread about a week ago telling my rookie mistake. I removed the pivot bolt in the lower unit by accident but it went right back in. My question is.... Is there any way to check, other than running it in the water,to see if it is alligned properly. if I run it with the muffs and put it in gear, forward and reverse, I will see the prop go the right ways correct? Thank you for your help and sorry for the stupid questions. after all I am a newbie.

You can try putting it into gear without running it. If it goes into both gears and returns to neutral, then everything is OK. You can also tilt the engine up as far as it will go. If it remains in neutral it is OK. If the drive dog slides forward and the engine goes into forward, then the pivot pin is not holding the shift pivot.
