winterizing, what's that?!?!?!?!?! I never winterize because i live in paradise and only come inside to make fun of iboats guys who live in colder climates. I'm great!

I think that was a +10C......

I don't winterize but I do pre-freeze maint. I change the oil, clean the fuel system, and inspect/change the lower unit lube. The big thing is to make sure that there is no water contamination to do damage when it freezes. I used to pump antifreeze into the block but now I simply use compressed air to purge the cooling system on the twin outboards after every trip.

The majority of people here in Alaska put their boats up for winter but I'm underway when conditions, daylight, and my work schedule allow (regardless of temp.).

There is a magical element to hooking into a reel-smoking 30lb chrome bright salmon that melts ice off of the rod guides as it takes off with your gear to into the abyss. I can't think of a better way about getting the blood flowing when it is 6 Deg. F out, blowing 18kts, and the boat and gear is glazed with freezing spray. It's intensely rewarding when that fish finally hits the deck and even more so when it later comes off the grill to melt like butter in your mouth.

Not to jack the thread, but I notice some OB guys in here (Bear and Briguy). I've always thought we were immune to "winterizing", so just wondering what your procedure is.

I have a fuel injected four stroke, so no fogging. Every tank since late summer has been stabilized, and the oil and lower unit oil are changed regularly.

I use the boat about once a month if the lake isn't frozen (this is rare here in NC), so it isn't in hibernation. Anything more than 4 weeks and the battery usually needs a charge. This is my 4th winter with this boat.

Actually you may want to read this thread. I fogged my four stroke Yamaha using this procedure. Many outboard techs suggest this or a similar procedure for winter storage. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=447624

As soon as I get caught up with work I'll pull the plugs and fog the cylinders. With every fuel up I add stabilizer since I never know when the last time I'll take the boat out will be. It could be in July or October depending on how busy I get with work.

Other than that, I religiously grease and lube everything throughout the season as far as cables and linkages go, so at the end of the season I'll add one more pump of the grease gun and a quick squirt of the spray lube.

I will also pull the prop to check the splines and lube with anti seize. Since I always attach a battery tender after each trip, I just make sure it's not going to come undone. The boat itself is put away dry after every use so the only thing I'll end up doing is vacuuming.

The whole process takes about an hour, including vacuuming.
