I have a 24+' tandem trailer for my 24' JC Tritoon. It currently is equiped with 20x10x8.5 little fat tires that do not seem to handle any trip much more than 75-100 miles. I am thinking about changing shackles, brackets etc to accomodate larger tires. Has anyone ever done this or have any comments? Other than the small tires this trailer was manufactured by JC Pontoons for this boat and is super heavyduty.

well all i can say is that i never dealt with a tritoon trailer with small tires but i have taken a 3200lb single axles trailer and converted it to a tandem axle 6000 lb trailer. The frame was the same as the 6000 lber but the axles were different. I would definitley make sure that if you did change all the necessary hardware to do that make sure that if you change the height of the tri toon on the trailer and i would imagine it may tow a bit different. Now you need to check the weight. If you can i would try to run 14 in tires and wheels as long as they can handle it. Well you would have more ground clearence and you may have to back the trailer into the water further to get the boat to float off. I wouldnt imagine it has brakes due to the small wheels or does it? That may be a concern but i doubt that too.

Are the axles on top of or below the leaf springs?
If they are on top, you might be able to move them to below and thus gain the room your looking for.

Those are the same tires I have on my ATV trailer. Are the axles torsion axles? They are not bad tires and are usually used where they will work.

I am not sure about increasing a tire size when you deal with torsion axles........ and considering it is a tritoon they may be the only ones that will work.

All I did when changing from small tires to larger ones was to make sure that fenders were high enough to accomodate the larger tires under full load so that they didn't rub when bottomed out. Othere then that all you have to watch out for it making the trailer too top heavey from it's center of gravity so it won't tip over on curves or sharp bends.
The one major thing to look out for is to make sure that everything is level when towing so you don't overload you tongue making it
hard on the tow vehicle.

Hey, Thanks for all the imput!

Jeeperman, good idea about reversing the position of the axles I will check that out.

Bob VT, I am not sure if I have torsion axles, what are they?

Boateric, I have no fenders, my tires set under my two outward toons and I only have about 1.5" of clearance.

Thanks for the imput, still not sure what I will do yet.
