Man Link, I cant beleive there is still one of those around that hasnt rusted into the ground! They were neat cars, they could be made to be fast also. If I remember right, the carbs were the big problem with those.

Re: anybody here into old cars?

I just sold my 70 W-30 442 :( :( . I bought it aug 2nd 1980.
spent a many a happy hour rowing that competition + shifter and listening to that 455 howl :) .
I may get back into it one day, but I think the next effort will be with a mid sixties A body with an 8.2 and a lenco 5 speed.
may even wish to play with presurized induction and nitrous along with a programmable ECU.
i figgure with a decent ECU, a decent set of injectors, a cleaner intake tract and some pressure with some NO2, 1000 HP while going to wally world and back is very possible.
but usually I am sober in the morning and the desire has passed :)
we built to many 600HP grocery getter 454 and 427 motors with carbs,no pressure and no NO2 in the 80,s.
worked at a shop in cleburne TX that specilized in restoring 55-7 chevies and packards with the occasional studebaker tossed in, drove a 61 stud buster in high school when I was not in my 69 442.

I do not know if it counts, but I own a 1985 2.8 liter chevy celebrity with 34000 miles on it.It does whatever I need a car to do and it has very low maintenance cost.( I can get almost every spare part from the junk yard)Since I ride my bycicle to work,I expect this car to last me another 20 years.

Re: anybody here into old cars?

Here is my latest project car.
It looks better now, but I haven't posted any pictures of it since I got it into the garage.
If I ever remember my password I will post more up there.

web page

Right before this one I almost finished a 1970 Mustang. Set that one up all strip, not street legal. Then before that one friend and I built a 1971 Chevy pickup.
Before all of these I had an old Gran Torino, another old Cougar and an old Ford truck.

So far my favorite old car for fun was a 1971 Oldsmobile Omega hatchback. Pulled the straight 6 and dropped or wedged a 455 in it's place. Took a lot of work but was a fun one while it lasted. Engine had too much torque and twisted the frame.

deputydawg
neatest omega I ever saw was a mid engine one. guy used a toronado transaxle and mounted the engine just behind the drivers seat. I think a company called mid-engineering made the kit

Re: anybody here into old cars?

Link, I had a 73' GT. First time I rolled it down a hill side, didn't break 1 single piece of glass. Redid the interior and after the body shop fixed all the dents had a friend spray it with a real purty urethane blue metalflake. Had it all fixed for about a year when a 72' Fury made a u-turn right in front of me. The wifey popped the w/s out with her head. Car was put to rest, what a shame.

Re: anybody here into old cars?

My current automotive projects are a 1938 Plymouth club coupe and a 1965 ply Barracuda sport formula. Hope to have the cuda on the road again the summer! Then I can focus on the 38. Been gathering parts and trim stuff for a while now, and now that I am single I can spend my money the way I want :D
