Both look to be mid 80's-ish to me.

Not bad. I've heard good things about 80's era OMC motors and aluminum boats never really wear out. Good luck!

Thanks fellas. Boat inside is super clean. I am restoring my 86 Starcraft right now. Plan is to use the new rig while I finish the restore, then I am goin to take the evinrude 70 hp, put it on the Starcraft, and turn the alumacraft into an electric only boat. I won't county chicks quite yet though! What do you guys suppose that boat hits WOT on glass?

The boat rigged as it is with the 70 hp and a light load can probably get close to 40 mph, maybe more. Of course, that will "feel" more like 60 mph when you're out on the water and it probably hops up on plane in no time. That's lots of old school, 2-stroke torque on a relatively light boat.....sounds fun :) Here are some links to vids of similar set ups.

I'd take a compression gauge and confirm the readings.

So guys went to look at the boat.motor had 132 135 135 psi. Battery did not seem to be charging. Ran great though. Boat had cracks in the side gunnels on both sides about 2' from the transom. Wood was rotting. Motor had been run in salt water and tires wouldn't have made it home. He told motor was freshwater and tires were good over the phone. Basically I did not acquire :)

Good call! Gotta know when to walk away. Not to worry, there are plenty more where that came from and hunting for them is half the fun.

Thanks, and absolutely! I drove 3 hours one way, but I had a few lined up. So I looked at three separate motors (Im after a motor, boats are bonuses) and I decided no on all of them. Was in the Norfolk area. Even went to a marina to check out some motors, and boy were they overpriced. It's not like it is saving me that much time and money to buy an already serviced motor. The way I see it, unless I have a shop record with the motor, when it comes home with me it gets plugs, carb kits, and water pump. It's funny how when you get to a house and see what is being offered for sale, and you think "wow I don't think I even want to make an offer on this."

Yeah, used motors from small dealers aren't the greatest deals considering you can do usually everything they do to fix them up. Something will pop up. Of course, it will be 2 days after you buy a new rig, but that's why you have to promise yourself not to look at CL for at least a week after you get your new toy :)

I hear that. Had another just today. '81 Johnson 75hp 138 135 138 psi. Wowsas!! But cosmetically looked horrible and lower unit was half empty with a nice mix of oil and water. Ian have gotten it except there was a crappy boat included in the sale. Didn't feel like foolin with it.
