Just wondering if anyone has been to Bayliner assembly plant. I would be interested in seeing what the actual manufacturing techniques they use now are.

Maybe I can find something on youtube.

I used to work in a bayliner plant in Roseburg Or, we used to get people in all the time for tours. I know it will be hard to find a plant still in operation but if your ever in Knoxville Tenn Pipestone Md or Reynosa Mexico just stop in I'm sure they would be happy to give you a tour.

... hiya thundergod,

did you make my Bayliner? its blue and white, has a small red pin stripe, oh and light blue interior driven by a Force o/b. that should narrow it down :) but seriously, can you perhaps throw comment to Marks question on build quality back then, or when you worked at BL?

on discovery channel there was a "how its made" episode on fiberglass boat hulls...it was really interesting, how they spray it on and coat it and stuff...and where they place all the wood ahead of time and everything. pretty cool.

the hulls are so tough that when one gets messed up in Lam and has to be destroyed it is hard for even a forklift to smash and no I didnt build yours I worked from 1992-1998 and the boats we built only had inboards

I saw that episode too. It was pretty cool with a lot of computer automation running the chopper guns and gel coat spraying. I was impressed, but I didn't catch that it was a Bayliner plant they were in.

It was a sea ray plant in TN on the show that I watched.

it wasnt a bayliner plant. but it was a fiberglass hull plant, which all should use the basic method. it was for fiberglass hulls in general, not bayliner specific.

I've been to 2 plants for tours...one in arlington Wa....made maxum/meridian's before they closed...then the bayliner plant in NC....that was interesting to see them lay the hull up in the molds and add all of the things like cabinets and engines before dropping the top deck down onto the lower hull....finally fit and finish is done before they roll it out of the plant...pretty cool setup...

Hmm, is the Bayliner plant in NC still in operation? I'd be interested in a day trip to see it. It'd likely help me design my new interior.
