anyone else ever get harrassed by drunks on a speed boat?

not fun i have an old 17 foot mfg gypsy with a 125 horse evilrude outboard its just a fishing rig. took my girl and my 74 year old mom out to the bay today to do some fishing and relax and play around with the freshly rebuilt carbs. 4 guys in a speed boat just started messing with us out of the blue, they started messing with a family on a house boat but the guy in the house boat while they were doing high speed circles around him fired up his rig and tried his best to plow into them so they moved on to us (easier prey i guess lol) it started with high speed passes and progressed to grabbing our fishing line tieing it to their rail and taking off... we tried to leave and head away but they just kept buzzing us and then they came along side and started throwing beer cans in our boat. i know it was childish of me but finally i had enough and took out a package of flares broke one in half and when they pulled up along side (now trying to get a rope over one of my cleats) i lit both of them and tossed one in the aft and one in the bow of their boat... that kept them busy while we chugged away lol

They clearly deserve far worse...but what you did is a reasonable response to hostile acts. Good job protecting your crew and getting out of there

HAHA I say good call. Looks good on them. I've never had anything like that happen to me, and its unfortunate that it happened to you. I guess some people just don't realize that water does not forgive stupidity. Accidents happen on the water all to often, we don't need people like that accelerating things.

I would have done the same as you. Childish or not.

I would say you did pretty good. Why would they try to tie up to your boat? I would have felt in danger and did anything I could to keep them away. Did you call the police? I would have let them know what happened. I actually would have called on my cell on my way to the ramp. Take a couple cans of pepper spray next time. Aim right for the eyes, they'll be hurting for quite awhile. More proof that the stupid people are reproducing faster than the smart people.

What the heck???? That is a sad story of disrespect. Frigin crazy bastards. That could have been very dangerous if they tied onto you and tried to pull your boat. Hopefully your Mom was ok.

I will clarify that by explaining that about 75% of my time on the water is in a boat with a big diagonal stripe on the side and a blue light and siren on the front

i hope you'll understand when I say this but, it would have been very funny if it happened to you. I would love to have seen their faces then. one big ooopps but but but we didn.....

sorry to hear stuff like this happens but it does seem as though people feel beyond the reach of the law when they get on the water.

wow what a response! to answer your questions the body of water is the kinzua dam area on the resovoir, there is NO cell phone service, very little on water police and that is almost non existant after labor day and they had put halloween pumpkin window clings over there registration numbers. it was a glastron can am style boat yellow with red trim and i THINK i saw their truck and trailer in the parking lot at the launch but couldnt be sure.

I made a post last summer about wakeboarders buzzing by my boat several times when I was trying to fish. I don't think they weren't trying to harrass me, just being inconsiderate. I got a bunch of replies with stories that were far worse than mine. Bigger boats intentionally trying to swamp smaller ones, stuff like that. I can't believe what idiots there are out there. I've been very lucky so far.

well that would have been what would have happened but i dont think that was their intent, they were not trying to HURT anyone i dont think... more of just being drunk and stupid probably thought they would tie on and give us the drag of our lives. lol the one moron had a speedo on and a cowboy hat and was trying to "lasso him a little water doggie" or so he was saying between yee haws and ride em boat boys... i said here lasso this and tossed him a lit flare and when it slid by i tossed one aft which bounced off their engine cover and went down in somwhere that they were having a real hard time getting it out of and we got the hell out of there as fast as the old tri hull would go

That is too funny...nice. I would have recorded their registration number and called the COPS. They love to get their choppers in the air and have some fun with drunk guys
