A friend of mine is about to tackle a home addition and needs to update his tool shed before starting. He came across the website below and is considering buying from them. He asked my opinion on them but I've never bought factory reconditioned power tools, just new or used at yard sales. Any of y'all ever buy from places like these?

Thanks,

Yup. New is a new concept to me. Some bozo just forgot something like oil or couldnt read directions. Never had an issue with a recon unit. But I follow directions. My weedwhacker, lawnmower and table saw are all factory recons. I looked for blood on all three and didnt see a drop. They do a nice job cleaning them up.

Yeah, Big Lots. I've bought a Skill saw, $29.99 recon ($59.99 new price) and Weed Eater brand leaf blower and weed eater. No problem with any of them.

I bought a recon Campbell/H air compressor off of e-bay and it is running just fine after about 6 years. I have done a lot of nailing with this..

I also bought a Milwaukee finish nailer that was a recon and have had abolutely no problems..

I think the bozo as in original owner factor is described here. The factory warranties them so whats to worry?

I've bought all kinds of refurbed stuff and have had great luck. Just make sure it has some kind of warranty.

I have bought refurbished electronics with no problems. Read where refurbished products go through more extensive testing than the original product.

A lot of 'refurb' stuff never had anything wrong with it. Some are nothing more than last years unsold models that the Manufacturerer is dumping. Others are simply returns that the customer did not want for some reason. Retailers today are so 'customer' oriented that they take stuff back for no good reason. The retailers in turn lean on the manufacturerers to take back returns and unsold stock.

It's almost become the same thing with the automotive lemon law. All some dissatisfied customer (for whatever reason) has to do is come up with an intermittant problem that the dealer can never duplicate, make the claim numerous times and voila, the car is bought back by the manufacturer and becomes a branded 'program' car.

I've never had a problem with a refurb.

I've never bought reconditioned tools but have had plenty of Dewalts rebuilt after crewmembers beat them to death. They've done just fine and when I tell you the crewmembers involved can beat stuff up, I mean they can BEAT THEM UP!

I can't vouch for this particular reseller, but the concept is a good one. Tell your buddy to check the vendor out, select tools of a well known and respected commercial grade, and have at it!

I have bought my framing nailer, finish nailer, brad nailer, circ saw, cordless drill, and many other tools (ALL Porter Cable) from CPO with no trouble at all. Every tool looks and performs like new.

In fact, they mistakenly sent me the wrong framing nailer and they provided me with a prepaid UPS return label. I had the correct nailer in my hand within 2 days.

I buy all of my Bosch tools from CPO Bosch. Never had a problem and the price is right. They always look brand new when they arrive and perform the same as well. I don't think you can go wrong..
