Yeah, mine came back 3 times before 70K. It would start off feeling like you were going over a rumble strip when turning, especially cold. Then it would hum some at cruise. Real low freq sound. I believe the last time they replaced the whole asembly. I can't keep track anymore.

Yeah, wish you were closer fo sho. Those plugs look like a royal pain in the arse.

sounds like they forgot the friction modifier in your diff you know the funny part is that the internals are the same from the independent to the straight axles the original problem was they made them to loose cause they didn't think the halfshafts would hold up to a tight clutch pack

I got my 2003 Expedition used when I bought it. I got it in 2005 and the rear end had a howl to it (25K on it). I told the dealer I would be towing a boat so they had it checked, the mechanic called me and told me there was a design flaw in the pinion gear and it made that noise. He said the rear-end was fine and towing a boat would be fine. But then he went on further to say "I guess I can put in a newer pinion gear in it if you are concerned" I told him "hell yes!" so he did it under warranty. No more howling sound and this is 50K later. Pissed me off though, he didn't seal it up and it started leaking when I got home and then I had to take it in again to have them fix it. Been fine ever since though. Every once and a while my "check advance trac" light comes on. Then day or two later, goes off. Not sure what is going on with that. I plan on doing the plugs in a few weeks. I am going with OEM plugs (motorcraft platinums). Nice to see others join in on this thread. Thanks!

the advance trac light could be a rear sensor we had some problems with them but need to get a code out of it which should be in memory . the pinion gear flaw i have seen also wish i could see some more they paid good lol.

the way we did the tune ups at ford,we sold the customer 8 plugs and 8 cop's(8 coils),they don't have plug wires they have coil on plugs, after removing them to replace the plugs, you will disturb the cop's, without replacing the cop's we just had the customers bringing back the truck at least once a week for a engine miss due to a disturbed cop. so after this happening almost every tune up,we stress to replace the cop's anytime you have to remove them.. goes for any of the 4.6 and 5.4 engines with cop's..

How many $900 tuneups have you done I haven't had but one or two cops go bad due to replacing plugs and with the cops at $100 a peice can't see to many people buying them for no reason. I guess i couldn't rip someone off for that much when they aren't needed if you have one go bad thats a different story.
