I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever done this (at least I hope not!). I had my boat out first time this season out at the river in AZ and ran it for 2 whole days with the muffs still on the lower unit! Boy did I feel like a moron when I pulled the boat out end of day 2 and only noticed it cuz I was removing the drain plug! Funny thing though, the temp was fine, never went above 145 where it always is. I did feel an unusual slight vibration and it sounded slightly different than usual but I thought maybe it was just water currents or maybe a new small nick in the prop. Guess I better make me up a new pre-op check list!

That is the advantage to the "muffs", they don't seal very well, and they tend to slide back a little and uncover at least a few holes on the drive.

When I was growing up, my dad had a set that clamped on, needless to say they didn't slide and when he got up on plane, there was almost zero water flow.

Thanks guys, but I wouldn't be laughing if I had burned up my motor! Good news is I constantly check my gauges so if the temp went up I woulda caught it and done some investigating. Yeah, good thing I didn't leave the hose attached, woulda reeeeally stretched it out, AZ is 250 mi. away, good one you guys!:D

If it's just the slip over muffs versus the type with the metal rod that goes through the drive i'm amazed it didn't just fall off.

It's the slip on kind, and I'm kinda suprised it was still on there too! Although I hadn't run WOT at all with it on, just cruised at 2500-2800 RPM. Funny thing though, the muffs were still there, but the metal hose attachment fitting was gone!

Your not the only one who has done it but probably the only one who had them on for two days and didn't do any damage to the engine or drive:eek:. It may be worth looking at the impeller just to make sure all is still good with it, but may be fine only cruising at the spped you were. Better that than pulling out of the gas station with the hose still in the tank, I actually got to see it happen once. The best part was the lady just pulled out onto the road (with handle still sticking out) and drove off like all was good.
