Anyone ever successfully reason with your Admiral? Just venting

So, earlier this year, sold the SBC out of the boat to make funds for the BBC project. Admiral says, the boat could wait, need to spend a bit of $ on house issues. No problem, so we divert funds, paint the lanai, entry way, and spend a bit on college fees for the stepson. All good, tax return should help

so last month when the taxes come back, thinking going to dump a bunch of $ and get the motor off to a machine shop. Admiral says.... boat can wait, new kitchen first. Taxes and commission from her two real estate sales now going to the kitchen... custom cabinets and custom granite and those funds are now gone.

So I list all the other projects on CL to get rid of for the boat. pair of 50's vintage Mercs, the Wooster Hellion http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat...hull-repair/592302-1970-wooster-hellion/page2. Sell the hellion, thinking, great, can now get the forged crank that I need to drop in so I can trim the block..... Now I have new lighting for the kitchen and a new sink, and I am moving electrical outlets, adding wiring....... and the dang cabinets are 4 weeks out yet.

To top it off, ran out of beer

Just venting.

Yes!

The Admiral just reasoned that we need to send our teenager off with her friend's family to a tropical spring-break vacation - because they invited her (to keep their kid company while they enjoy themselves). Well, she was successful - and my projects will step back - and I'll keep nailing my old car together, etc, etc.

OK - vent over (for now)

My wife knows I would live out of the den in the garage, and rent the house to fund my boat, motorcycle, jeep, 4x4 truck, woodworking, hunting, and fishing projects if she let me. Fortunately I let better judgment get the best of me and let her keep me in check.

But it sure is hard sometimes. I mean really who needs mulch and flowers and all that home decor stuff anyway.

Sounds to me like good reasons to NOT have a "SWMBO"

Sorry Scott. I think the only reasoning you have left is, "If I don't finish this motor, I'm throwing away a boat that's worth X dollars." The value I would put on it would be a value if it were running, of course.

My wife constantly watches the decorating shows on tv that show all the women-folks all the things they need for their houses and yards to give it "curb appeal".....
I say how many folks drive by my house and really give a rats-butt about my yard?....or ever even see the inside.

Mod EDIT: Robert knows why

We don't have curbs; so I'm safe there. But there are 2 bedrooms that will be painted; new floor and paint in guest bath; and the living room. The only good thing:she cuts the grass; and I let her!

You need to tell her you were trying to get the boat done so you could take her for a nice vacation to (insert fun boating destination here). Remind her how relaxed she could be after a tough day of dealing with tire kickers dragging her all over town and never buying.

It's that or you put in an order to Summit and play the it's better to ask forgiveness than permission.

I have been in a marriage for 5+ years and the relationship was around 10 years. It has now been going on 15 months to get divorced. I have had a GF for a little over a year and will not play any more games.

That isn't reasoning with the admiral, that's changing the admiral.... Lol

We'll be married 35 years in October and we have always agreed to buy what would be fun if we were interested in having it (and could afford it) and to fix or do what needs to be done around the house. Bathroom and kitchen remodels are priorities at this time....36 x 30 steel building is still sitting on skids in backyard after 3 years and we both hope we can do that soon. It will be a win-win because I would be out there most of the time. :)

I always thought a marriage license should be like a car title, so you could just assign a new owner on the back...

Wife wants to go to Germany, get a new bedroom suite, and new flooring in 1/2 the house. I want to remodel the boat! LOL! Youngest daughter wants to go hunting in Colorado, so that is booked for the fall ... it is good to be able to use the youngest child as leverage! Now if I can get the youngest to say she wants the boat remodel ... :pray2:

Marriage is all about compromise.

Wife wanted a cat, loves 'em.

I did not want a cat, hate 'em.

So we compromised.

And got a cat.

Happy wife, Happy life.:D

Nuff said. ;)

I try to always have personal slush fund that is not part of the house fund. The slush fund is fed by buying and selling stuff (mostly boat related). I keep books to track the money so proof can be shown that my hobby doesn't impact other finances. When things are good that money goes towards other fun stuff. When things aren't so good my hobbies go on the back burner.
