On a serious note, I have a boat that while lake boating, gives a very harsh ride. I seem to find a correlation that my back gets real bad after a few good hours of boating. I cannot seem to find any other activities that cause this flare up. Has anyone experianced this after boating. Most those who have small boats that pound hard.

Not since we got a boat with a deep V hull.
The only quick fix is to slow down when your on chop.

I always boat at slowest "on plane" speed when the chop is occuring. Which is 23MPH at 2500RPM. Any slower and the bow in in the air.

Could be a seating issue. Get you a couple of comfortable swivel captains chairs. We fished a redfish tournament once out of my sons Jonboat since we could get up in real skinny water with it. It didn't take long before my back was killing me. I won't go out in a boat again unless the seats are as high as a desk chair and have a good sturdy back.

I recently had surgery on my cervical (neck) spine, unrelated to boating. My surgeon did tell me he's treated numerous patients with spinal compression fractures due to the pounding of the waves. Now I imagine you'd have to be pretty damn reckless to be going fast enough in a rough enough chop to actually fracture your vertebrae, but it definitely gives you an idea of the pressure that is put on your spine when slapping on the waves for extended periods of time. Simple fix-slow down or buy a boat that doesn't pound as hard.

drive standing up. That solves it, and is why experienced boaters prefer to drive standing up.
Or get good cushions. I grew one.
Since I usually drive, I didn't know how rough sitting could be, until I switched places--this in a small (17') skiff with a flat bottom, in open water.
