Anyone got a good source of decals?

Well, having almost got things in great shape bar a couple of replacement oil seals thanks to everyone here, I discovered a source of original color paint (www.wholesalemarine.com) for the 81 4HP Evinrude that I've be working on with much guidance from the good folk here. This will allow me to spiff up everything (plus prevent a bit of rust...) except the canopy where the decals are a problem. I have found partial sets that aren't original (though may do if I get out of being picky) but not complete sets (they exclude items likej the slow/fast and fuel on/of/choke etc). I also found a custom maker who would probably cost me a fortune which would defeat my motor bargain.

Anyone know of a place I can get some reasonably proced ones? I'd love this thing to look as good cosmetically as I'm sure it will be mechanically when done (which may be this weekend).

Thanks again,
Mark

The original PN for the decal set (Evinrude) was 281643. Last price was $16.40

Search up SeaWay Marine. They are located in Seattle, Washington and carry a ton of discontinued stuff. The might be able to help you out.

And, I'm going to delete your original post since it's a duplicate.

Thanks - I'll go chase them up - and thanks for zapping the duplicate - I was just fishing around to see if I could get rid of it so much appreciated.

Cheers

If you can't locate the decal you want, there is an outfit on the web that makes/sells original decals. check them out at: http://www.cutnupvinyl.com/. I have purchased a few sets from them an have been very happy with their products. They can even make a decal from a picture, with proper measurements.

Might also check your local yellow pages for a shop/business that does banners/signs/T-shirts/graphics, etc. Given a decent photo and some length, width, height measurements they can whip up good decals from thin-cut adhesive vinyl. Peel off the backing, apply and rub down and then peel off the top backing. Has worked very well for me. Pretty reasonable cost, too.

Re: Anyone got a good source of decals?

Well, I gave up after following all the leads. Basically there's nowhere to get original/repro for this 1981 Evinrude 4HP so I am forced to compromise (nobody will know and if I ever find comething like the originals then I'll replace).

I cleaned up the, somewhat yellowed in places plastic, lower shroud to be good enough. I found that fine wire wool and rubbing compound did a reasonably decent job - I could probably keep working at it - and perhaps I will to remove all yellowing but I think it's likely I'll settle. Cleaned up the decal on this, which looked cracked but turned out to be the outer coating only - I gently removed this layer, goof offed the glue, and waxed over for a bit of protection so now it looks brand new.

The rest of it will be cleaned up, primed, old decals removed, and resprayed he original colors thanks to wholesalemarine.com. I'm replacing them with decals modeled after a 1986 motor courtesy Nanas. Not authentic but who will every be able to tell.... The stop/slow/fast decal on the upper case, that nobody has, appears simple to replicate and I'll just going to create this on my computer and print it onto decal vinyl and use that.

Thanks all,
Mark
