I'm relatively new to this forum and I don't mean to come off like a jerk. I design sound systems for a living. If you want to know what the specs mean in terms of real-world listening, lemmeeknow.

Most consumer low-end stuff is highly overrated in terms of power handling, frequency response, and sensitivity. Those Pyramids, Duals, Pyles and many other brands will blow up if you actually feed them at their rated peak power. That is, if you actually buy an amp from a manufacturer that doesn't flat-out lie about the power their amps produce.

IMO Pioneer is the best bang for the buck for head ends (receivers) = $150 including HD radio, USB, iPod control, aux in, and about 17 true watts per channel x 4. (17 watts is a lot for a car stereo head!)

Rockford Fosgate has the best amps & subs. They rate their stuff in real-world numbers, and I've seen a 225-watt R-F outperform other popular manufacturers' claimed 1,000 watt amps.

Alpine has a wonderful set of 6-inch two-way speakers for around $100 per pair with a true peak rating of 150 watts each.

BTW, smokingcrater, were you talking about three-ways being crossed at 8kHz? Most two-ways are crossed at 2kHz.

Not a bit and this is what this is all about; the information.

I would agree with that statement. I think the point of the OP was he was looking to get decent sound for the cheapest way. If we were talking Comp systems we would be in another world.

Yeah, there's a difference from a comp car stereo and just havin some tunes on the boat while fishing or cruising around. I had Rockford subs and amps with clarion head and component speakers. Man, that was some nice sounding stuff, even at low volumes. I miss that car, but I, and the OP, am just looking to be able hear some 'decent' sounding tunes on the boat. I think I'll pick up those duals the next time I am out, I'll let ya'll know if they are worth the few bucks they cost, or just detinate upon use.
