Just figured I would check in with a hobby of ours to see how many others shared our interest. We race mostly Mustangs now coming from chebbys several years back. Love all cars and not a hater on anything that gets me there faster than walking.

Here ya go. Mrs. Bugman at Carolina.jpg36800_1543431154406_1493790189_31443987_1369626_n.jpgBugmanJr._MissBugman.jpg79 CVCC.JPG93 Lx Greg Welds.JPG

I don't anymore, used to do some drag racing. A fellow I work with is at Carolina Dragway a lot with his son-in-law who runs there and other places, he told me yesterday that he just won a championship.

Nice honda! My uncle had a blue one similar to that when he got out of the Coast Guard. His friends would pick it up and wedge it between cars, trees, whatever so he couldnt get it out!

Used to sponsor a dragster that held the record in the H/Gas catagory when they redid the classes many years ago. So we will forever be the record holders with the Brumbaugh/Speck Pontiac T/A. Ran mostly in the Northeast with an occasional venture out of the area.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

I used to drag race a few of my old sport bikes, was a ton of fun.
I have a small car collection; 1964 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible, 1980 Bradley GT2 Electric (1 of 50), 1997 BMW 850Ci (1 of 166), plus my DD Olds Aurora Gen1, K2500 Suburban, and Suzuki Intruder 1400.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

I've always been a big fan of collector cars...even since I was a kid and I was always a big GM fan.;)
That said, these days I have a couple of old (1/2t.) chevy trucks that are in nice driving shape. I have a 66' Chev that I bought in Florida about 15+ years ago that is in good shape. I also purchased a very original '72 Chevy out of California about 1-1/2 years ago....which is a really sweet truck.
Neither truck is hot rod at this point but I have toying with the idea of pulling the stock 250/6cyl. out of the '66 and finding/installing a 472/500ci Cadillac engine.
As well, I will be upgrading the power in the '72's 350 when it finally goes in for a rebuild in a few years....but not needed yet.
If I had my druthers and the budget for it....my car of choice would be a mid 60's Corvette Stingray coupe (65'-67')....ideally a small block/4spd.
The funny thing is that the older I get....the faster I want to go....go figure?:D

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

I have an affinity for Audi cars.

01 Audi TT project on the back burner, it'll eventually be a track car. Notsomuch drag racing though, its built to handle and stop more than 'go'. Slow in, fast out!

Also have an 87 Audi 4000CS Quattro, its my winter driver, and I also put super studs on it and ice race it.
Again, handling over hp... That car is (was) 115hp from the factory, now has unknown miles on it. I bought it with a broken speedo cable, and 3 years later, still have a broken speedo cable. Tach works, thats what counts.

Also an old Chevy 1500 to haul the cars when i break them, and a 01 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 to drive when the cars are broken so I don't have to feed entire paychecks into the gas tank of the truck.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

I have had several GTO's over the years, 68, 69 and 72 (I currently drive a 2005 GTO as a DD) I love my fast toys. :D
Just sold off my recent project (a 69 Custom-S) I didn't have the time and energy I once did and I wanted my toys/projects to have more instant payoff. No patience left for a 5 year plan.

I have raced a bit over the years, drags at KCIR and what not. But not a "racer".

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

In the 80s I got a hopped up 67 Merc. Cougar a friend had built. It had a 289, nasty solid cam, highrise singleplane 10.5 to one forged TRWs etc. and a toploader 4 speed w a Hurst Ramrod V-gate shifter. It was very loud and fast when you stomped on it. It was very fun to drive and make instant shifts or downshifts w/o missing a gear. Being young, in a small town, I and others would race occasionally on the street. W 60s on the back, the fast reving motor, 4speed and the shifter made this car pretty tough to beat to about 90. the car was hit by a logtruck while parked and I sold the body but kept the goodies. I hope to reserect it one day maybe in an old Falcon, Comet, or Fairlane.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

Love the photos and experience. I figured there would be a few of you fellow car lovers on here. I have mostly Mustangs but a few of the older Civic's because I think they are too cool. I have a few Miata's, more Mustangs than anyone I ever heard of, a few hopped up 7.3 trucks, a few gas savers, etc.

Myself, my wife, son and daughter all drag race as a hobby only. Our fastest pass so far was a is 8.87 @ 157mph with a 1.30 short time. Trying to get a 5.40 in the 1/8th but don't see it happening this year. My wife is in the low 9's with my son just a tad bit slower. He ran his first 9 second pass @ the House of Hook in Carolina in a 86 Mustang coupe @ the age of 15. For those of you that know Jeff and Angel... Well it was a private event day and he had his learners.

It is just something fun for us to do as a family. A little on the expensive side but def making memories and having a blast doing so.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

ive restored a mgb, spitfire, 46 chevy side step and built off road vechiles from scratch.ive also owned a few odd balls like kit cars etc. i like to restore or play with a anything with a motor but once its running perfect and theres no more work to be done i get bored driving them so i sell and start the next one. my wife thinks im nuts but thats my hobie. i drive a mini cooper s as my work car and its one of the few cars i realy enjoy driving. i bought the mini by accident as i thought i had turned in to the mazda lot looking for a car for the kid when i sore the car and decieded i had enoght time for a quick joy ride. i bought the car home and my wife was giving me that look. she took it for a drive and came back with a huge grin. now she insists the next car she gets is going to be a turbo.

Thats picking em up and laying em down. Nice pass. Used to do some racing when I was younger but got away from it as the kids got older. Now I`m getting the bug again, not sure which direction I want to go yet. Boats or cars. Been toying with the idea of a flatty with a ls motor. But then I have a built 400 sbc in the garage just sitting there waiting for something to drop it in.

Oh well, headed out this afternoon to Frankenmuth for the big car show, maybe that will get the ideas flowing.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

1996 local track champion checking in here. Got knocked out first round in the Division 3 finals....by a kid in his dad's just-shy-of-Pro Stock car.

We race mostly Mopars. 69 Coronet R/T (sold), 68 'Cuda (certified as being built by Mr Norm himself, car won the 68 Winternationals SS/A), 64 Polara (for sale), front engine dragster with a slant 6 (sold), 60-something Belvidere (sold), 30-something Anglia (sold), 38 Plymouth with a straight axle of course, geez...must be forgetting a few...I've raced my Jeep, parent's minivan, Dad raced MC class on a street legal pit bike, made a pass in the firetruck one time when we were setting up for the year versus the ambulance (I used to do safety safari)...sure I'm missing a few still.

I haven't been to a track since 05 and haven't raced since 02. Going back would be akin to taking an alcoholic to a bar. Not a good idea.

Man I miss it...

Oh yeah, delay boxes are for cheaters.

Re: Anyone here drag race or collect cars?

I have a 1948 Chevy 3100 5-window, a 1953 Chevy 3600 3-window and a 1973 opel GT along with a 2000 Audi A4 Avant daily driver.

used to drag race the opel with a 3.8 liter buick in it. It was only a 12 second car.
