Anyone know anything about this Genmar boat company?

I've heard many good things about Stratos boats but don't know why they stopped making offshore models. It looks like they made 20' to 33' CC's and WA's until the late 1990's and stopped. <br /><br />Were these good, quality products? <br /><br />Why did they stop making them? <br /><br />Any wood in these designs? <br /><br />It is a good brand name and I know they make a very good bass boat. Freshwater fisherman love em'. <br /><br />I'm thinking of buying an older offshore model.<br /><br />Thanks,

Genmar owns a bunch of boat companies Stratos,Hydra-sports,Javelin,Ranger,champion,four winns,glastron,wellcraft,larson etc.etc.<br />The reason Stratos doesn't produce offshore boats anymore is that back in the day. Stratos and Hydra-sports were essentially building the same boats. I guess Genmar decided to have Hyrdra-sports just build offshore and Stratos would just build freshwater. Instead of both companies building both kinds. I hope this helps.

I own a 205fs hydra-sports with no complaints. I don't know a lot about the offshore models.

ddog,<br /><br />Thanks for the reply. I'm betting you're right about the reason for the change in marketing strategy for Stratos. After the Genmar buyout, they probably decided to consolidate.<br /><br />I'm looking at an older offshore Stratos and it really looks like a fine boat. Deep V hull and high gunwales for good offshore running. This one has been in dry storage for most of its life and looks like it just came off the showroom floor. <br /><br />See you out ther,
