Anyone know of a good forum for camping?

Are there any forums for camping on par with iboats? I did a little Googling and most that I found seemed kinda dead. Is there a good one I'm missing? We're tent campers but I'd settle for an RV forum if it was pretty busy.

My search reconfirmed that iboats really is an uncommonly good and busy forum!

Looking for a tent restoration forum? :D

Sorry.

Don't know of any good ones.

I just wish I could find a tent made the way I want.
Found one last year, but it was pulled from the market, apparently the manufacturer (overseas), couldn't make them without screwing them up. The seller said they had a 50% return rate. !!

We just went through some agonizing research trying to pick a new one. Our old one, which was a ****'s house-brand special, leaked like a sieve. Everyone I looked at had mixed reviews. We went back and forth trying to pick one. Even some of the real pricey ones had mixed reviews. I wasn't about to spend hundreds on a tent that wasn't ideal. So we decided to just get a pretty good one and seam-seal it and take care of it. Picked out a Columbia one and it just so happened to be on sale at Cabelas. So I ordered it.

What about www.rv.net/forum? I have went on there a few times looking for some answers and found them helpful. We have a Trail Bay 26BHSS and really enjoy the time with family. We are looking into a couple of campgrounds in the area where we can combine permanent campsite and docking all in one. Thinking we will try our hand at that. Good luck.

Thanks kenmyfam and badkins. Strangely those appear to be the same forum (and I've found it myself under the Woodall's brand). I guess they rebrand the same forum for all their publications.

Hey ez I bought a cheapo 9' x 13' from Target for $85 and sprayed it with Thompsams water seal using a 2gal pump sprayer. Its lasted 4 years with no leaks so far.
As for camping; If you want to come to Maine I can hook you up with what you need. We have great state parks, one is on Sebago lake only 1/2 hr from me. If you want remote camping for little or no fee there's that too within 2 1/2 hrs North of Portland. For you it would be bit of a hike. Scranton/Wilkbarre is about 7hrs from Portland.

Nothin' specific. Just wanted to do some reading. Like I do here :D

Michael, I think seam seeling is going to be the ticket. If I'd done that to my last tent it probably would have been fine. I ordered this one from Cabelas http://www.cabelas.com/product/Colu...91780&WTz_l=Unknown;cat105591780;cat108345780 We've got a 3 year old so there won't be any major New England road trips for a while.

We ended up getting the Alaskan Guide 6 man from Cabela's. We like it. Not that you want to see everybody's tent!

That's a cool tent! They are pricey though. I had a rule, don't spend more on a tent than I could get a used pop-up camper for! :p

At first glance this looks like a pretty good one. http://www.campingforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?2-Car-Tent-Camping&order=desc It's no iboats, but then what is?;) That tent should serve you just fine as long as you take decent care of it and use a ground cloth. A big piece of Tyvek makes a dandy one. Personally, two of the main features I look for in a tent are a bathtub bottom and aluminum poles, but those tend to increase the price quite a bit and are likely not worth it unless you're looking for something that will get A LOT of hard use. Next time you're looking for a tent or anything else pop in here. http://www.campmor.com/ I've had great luck with them over the years and they have some really good sales, plus, many of their customers are seasoned campers so the reviews tend to be a little more helpful.

Re: Anyone know of a good forum for camping?

It has been a few years since we tented, but the few things I remember is plastic under the tent for a little extra dryness, get a big fly or tarp for the rainy seasons (also good for the sun), thick air mattresses.
Coleman propane products are nice, start with a 10 or 20 pound bottle, next get the tree and screw on lantern and the two longest hoses they make for your stove and BBQ.
You will be using a truck/car not backpacking, right ????

I don't know of any tent camping forums, but I can tell you that we bought one just like this tent a few years ago, marked down to about $180 in a local sporting goods joint. Honestly, after using it I think I would have paid full price.....it's that good.

Unless you're packing it in, no need for something lightweight...and I HATE dealing with a fly.

Re: Anyone know of a good forum for camping?

I will second Incoop's suggestion to check out Campmor, get on their mailing list asap.

They have great prices and good selection of all sorts of gear.

No idea of a good forum, maybe check out a local PA outdoors site and see if they have a good camping section?

One other thing, if you have "rustic" camp sites around check those out. No RVs or much of anything except tent campers. Many of them are on/near lakes, but most everything is in Michigan.:D

We have a bunch of them around here where you drop money in a box to pay and nobody is ever around. Makes for peaceful camping.:)

Re: Anyone know of a good forum for camping?

Joined rv.net earlier today in fact! Seems like a very nice / informative place. We just recently "graduated" from tent camping to a 31' Holiday Rambler travel trailer. The kids (well, one of 'em anyway) were not all that into the tent camping bit. Never did find too much help on the tent camping anywhere on the net. RV.net seems to have a bit of info on there, but that area is definitely not as busy as the others.
