First, I know I should have a pic, but I left my phone at home tonight, so forgive me. I'll get a pic up tomorrow.

Next to my throttle, but not a part of my throttle, is a female 2-pin connection. It's a round connector, with a white plastic cap. I looked briefly under the dash, and it looked like there was a double wire going to it. I have no clue where it goes from there though. It's on a 1984 SportCraft. I was thinking an outlet for a handheld spotlight, or something similar. Any ideas?

Ok, here are the pics of this thing, with and without the cover;

So, what do you think it is?

It sounds like the connection for the white light on top of the boat. I don't know exactly what it is called but it is viewable 360 degrees. On my boat the wire runs up through one of the Bimini poles to the top.

This is just a guess, not being able to view it.

Masthead light.....and you're probably right in that's what the connector is for.

Based on where it is I don't think it is for the anchor light.

I agree that it sounds like it's in the wrong place for your white running light- but do you have a light pole at the stern? If you don't, maybe it's for that. Get a VOM and find out when the socket is live. If it's live when the running lights are on, it may be for the running light. It could also be connected to your accessories switch- for either a spotlight or ??. If it's live all the time, it could still be for a spotlight, or for almost anything else that needs power- fishfinder, etc...

If it is next to the throttle, HMMMMM
OK have a look under the white cap, is there a jumper wire going between the two poles??
I was thinking it may have been for a kill strap, one of those things that go around your wrist and if you fall out pulls the plug and kills the boat.

just a guess though :)

Nope, no jumper, and not a kill switch. It does 'sorta' look like a female socket for an anchor light, but no way is it an anchor light. This is a 22' walkaround, and it has a windshield mounted masthead light, and a transom light.

Keep the guesses coming. :)

See first post for pics. Ideas? Oh, and my flux capacitor doesn't fit, and neither do my muffler bearings, so those are not it....

The boat is a 1984, and it looks like it's original to the boat, so I doubt GPS.

I thought maybe some kind of light as well. There is no screw-in for whatever connects in there, so it just plugs in and sets there.

Looks like a plug in for a hand held spot light.

I agree with most of you brilliant folks. It's an accessory plug in. Mine looked just like it, same cover and all. Mine was on the left and right side (aft) of my 87 Searay boat for the down rigger plug ins.

If you look closely you will find the plug has a positioning pin. The receptacle will have a slot to receive it and that way you have the proper polarity.

x2

back in the day my dad used 120v AC 2 blade outlets with 2 blade power cords to use 12v DC power

I used to own an older Sea Ray that had that same plug, it was for the power to the fish finder. Those were a generic power point that you could buy to power removable accessories which you didn't wish to leave in the boat while docked or unattended.
I've also seen those used at remote speaker connections for the VHF or CB radio. If the plug isn't polarized, meaning that it will take a plug in either direction, my guess would be it's for an accessory speaker. If there's 12v power there, then maybe a hand held spotlight.
If there's 12 volts there, and you don't have anything that uses that plug, I'd probably just convert that to a more common cigar lighter type plug, that way at least you can use it to power multiple items.

Same plug we use for electric downriggers. High amp rating. Came from Perco, surely they still sell the male fitting. Best DC outlet of that type I've ever used.
