I have been looking for one of those old toilets that have the very large tanks on them. You know..the good 'ol fashioned ones that your Grandparents had!

Now those things made a flush that any man could be proud of! What were they..5 gallons?

Ewver since the 'conserve water' thing came along, they've all but outlawed them.

My house's rear bathroom is a long ways from the septic tank, and clogs from time to time. A nice big 5 gallon flush would do nicely.

I hear you can get them in Canada, but never confirmed that. And if true, how could I get one to Oregon? I hear it would be illegal to ship one from Canada?

Maybe a way to make money..toilet smuggling...LOL!

Thanks,

Rob

Try making friends with a plumbing contractor and get a used one. They pull them out all the time when remodeling bathrooms.

c/6

Hooty

just adjust your holding tank float to take more
water into tank before shutting off. you can easily
get a couple more gallons when you need to
use the force....

Homerr,

You may want to contact a local plumbing supply house.(not home dep., lowes, etc) Ask them about a power assist toilet. We just installed a bunch of these on a commercial job. There is a bladder in the tank so that when filling the bladder(balloon) presurises. When it is time to flush the water starts with 60 psi+- as opposed to just relying on gravity. They are pretty amazing. They are only slightly more money but I can tell you it will absolutely fix your problem. Ifyou do talk to them make sure they dont think you want a" flush valve ". A flush valve is kind of the same thing, there is no water in the tank(because there is no tank), and when you hit the lever the water for the flush comes direct form supply line (once again 60psi+-) flush valves are very expensive.

Hey jhole, Is a flush valve like what they have in hospitals and such? Man, when you flush those things, you want to be sure you aren't wearing any loose clothing! :)

Yes Moose,

That's my point, the assisted flush is kind of like a hybrid because you still have the tank etc. and a normal installation but you also have all that power(pressure) WHOOOOSH!!!!! The best part is like I said they are not much more expensive(10% - 20% more)

Hi Homerr, I've got two of them that I have removed from my house. One is white and one is a real nice PINK one. (who in there right mind would put one of those in?) They can be yours or they can be land fill. Let me know if your interested.

Since the toilet works the same, you only need a larger tank. I would use a 20 gallon aquarium (plexiglass). Attach the appropriate plumbing. Divide off a section at the front, say 3 inches, with another piece of plexi sealed in place. drill two 1/4 inch holes in the divider about halfway down.

You should be able to get a 10 gallon flush out of it, and have a place to keep your left over minnows till you go fishing again.

Thanks for the input guys!

Love the fish tank idea... Boy what a conversation piece. Of course, you'd have to keep the 'tapered-end' brown trout out of the tank! LOL!

Mayfloat..I am interested in your offer. They are the gigantic 5 gallon models? I definitely would take the white one. Maybe the pink one, but I'll have to talk with the wife. I'm mainly after one for my back bathroom.

My next question is, would the tank fit my current bowl, or would I have to replace the whole thing?

Either way, doesn't matter.

Now, how could we ship this thing and NOT get broken? (that disqualifies UPS..lol) Actually, I prefer Fed-Ex.

Let me know how much that thing weighs. I can probably have it drop-shipped to my employer. We use several different truck freight vendors...I'll check.

Thanks,

H.

Homerr, I am glad you found a source. If it does not work out, then old house slavage places are probably your best bet. I have one of these. My guess is it was installed in March 1917 when the shower was installed. We have to make sure the cats aren't around when we flush it since it has the power to take them with it. We have it set to about a 2 gallon flush, but since the tank hangs on the wall a lot higher than modern day toilets, and the tank is thinner it stacks the water on top of the outlet instead of spreading it out. It is also taller and easier to use than the midget toilets out there now. Now ask me about my 5 foot long 2 foot deep rolltop tub. It's a beauty. Don't ask me about falling plaster though.
