I am invisioning myself cutting a triangular hole in the deck in the bow area and dropping in a triangular anchor locker with a lid - Run a drain line and all set. Anyone make anything like this ir am I just dreaming? Or even a cut in triangular hatch with a frame - I could always build the locker - I would rather not but would if needed.

take a look at the boats made that way--almost any center console in the last 10 years around 20+ feet.

There is no insert; the walls are just hull. More room; no need to be finished.
cut-out so the danforth anchor hangs inside.
Square hatch and hole--the hull gives it the triangle

warning: most of these are cut too short for the right sized anchor. Measure carefully!

I made an anchor locker for my boat . . . it was not exactly a 'drop in' type, but it did involve cutting a hole in the deck. Here are a few pics in case they give you some ideas.

I made a custom locker because of limited space way up front and I had to accommodate speakers in the design. I also made the anchor locker bigger than what you would normally get.

I have not seen any generic anchor lockers that you can just do a cut and install. They may exist . . .

there are drop in anchor wells. they are pricey. look at the vendors who exibit at Miami. its been a few years since I have been to the Miami boat show, however i recall a few of the hatch manufacturers having vee shaped anchor lockers.

here is the exhibitor list

here are a few that have products that may work

tpenfield - Great job but that is definately more work than I was planning. The reason I would like a triangular hatch is because I could then put it closer to the bow and not chew up as much cabin space. Maybe somebody noticed a triangular screw in hatch on a certain model boat that I could retrofit - Just typing out loud here.

I would also suggest installing some padding in there. When I got my boat, the anchor locker fiberglass was full of dings from the anchor banging around in there. Had to re-glass the interior, seal, paint and pad it to protect it. Also, keep a check on the drain, as they plug up easily from the bottom debris / sand brought aboard by the anchoe line and such.

I never did find one but I did find a solution - I bought a boat that already had a locker & roller. :)

I have yet to come across any company that makes a ready-made anchor locker. I have seen some pre-build fishing storage compartments and the like, but nothing design for anchors.

I custom fabricated a locker for my 24 footer and then purchased a boat that actually had a locker afterwards.
