Anyone own a dodge 2500 I6 diesel?

looking at a 03 for pulling my boat and riding around town for a good 30-35k miles a year (home health therapist). so i need good gas mileage and no more than $20k to spend on one

I drive a 2006 model 3500 for work.Great truck and it would pull a house.
35k a year would be nothing on that engine..

Unless you are pulling the Queen Anne, you should have no trouble towing a boat with that truck. Fuel consumption around town will be somewhat less than poor, though. 10 mpg if you are lucky. That model is the first year for the common-rail fuel injection and I would recommend upgrading the lift pump to an in-tank unit if it hasn't already been done. Overall, high mileage Dodge trucks tend to get "looser" as far as steering and suspension go, which make them a little unpredictable over rough roads, but that Cummins engine should give you no problems with regular maintence such as oil changes with good oil and fuel filter changes every 5k. The trans is very tough and one of the heaviest Chrysler ever built, the diffs are bullet-proof. It'll probably need balljoints and u-joints if it has over 70k on it.

does i6 stand for inline 6 cyl?
if it does i own one.
a 98 ram. 12 valve. 380,000 kms
it will pull a 28 foot trailer fully loaded up and down high mountain passes all day long. drove from enderby bc. to golden bc, over the dreaded rodgers pass. (without the trailer) about 200 kms (high mountain driving ) on 27 liters of fuel! no bull! couldnt deleive it myself. had to show the mechanic the fuel recipts to prove it!
mine is a two wheel drive. buy the four wheel drive.
the engine is so heavy that i will get stuck on a flat snow covered parking lot. it is also horrible on a steep boat launch.
ive got a 19 foot sea ray. (old one so it weighs a lot) and i regularly have to get 10 people to sit in the box so i can get my boat out of a steep launch.
mind you its a really stupid launch. a lot of people get stuck there.
your average boat launch is ok though.
al in all its a fantastic truck. i love it.
around town 20 bucks will go all week, and i drive lots.
little or no repairs for the average joe.
I pull trailers 700 kms 2 times a week fully loaded. the 28 foot. from kelowna to vancouver. its also a high mountain road with some killer hills.
went through a tranny. 4500 bucks worth. 3 sets of brakes. and one starter.
oil changes will cost a lot. i think 12 liters.
but ill never go back to gasoline.
do your homework and youll come out with the right truck!

I have a 06 CTD 4x4. Love it, the mileage is not as good as on my former 92 CTD. I don't know how big your boat is, but for pulling a boat and trailer up a launch ramp I would purchase a 4x4.

You have to love the "my truck will run all week on $20.00 worth of gas".... LOL... My CAR will run all WEEK on ONE dollars worth gas... if I only drive it to the mailbox and back

i drive that truck for deleveries of fruniture around town. lots of kms. 20 bucks all week!

i use a k&n air filter and synthetic oil in the tranny and diff.

Let's see.....$20 worth of $3/gal fuel x 18 mpg=?

If it was 4x4, it would cost you $20 in fuel just to get to the gas station and back.
