Re: Anyone take their firearms aboard their boat?

Federal Reservations are different for sure, Military Bases, Federal Courthouses and the like are No Firearms areas, But as of February, 2010, Obama Signed into Law that Concealed Handgun Permit Holders could legally carry into National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges in States that allow Concealed Carry, it was tested in court so this is an "IN effect" Law in the United States NOW!

As for leaving my Gun in my truck for whatever reason I have one of these https://www.consolevault.com/ And I highly recommend one, I do not patronize Businesses that have posted no firearms signs on the door, that cost a jeweler a $8000 wedding ring for my wife that I found at a more reputable jeweler without communist beliefs.

I used to ignore the posted signs like Bubba and I completely understand Bubbas ideology, but for me its become an issue where I see no grey area, you don't want me to protect my family and friends, you don't get my money, end of story.

As for a legal battle (90stingray) that's not the case, I disagreed with smokingcrater and He was right, thats why I posted the COE Rule for all to see, there is no soapboxing going on here just clarification of the law for all to learn from, I can't stress it enough that gun owners need to learn the laws for the state in which they reside (or are traveling to/through) for themselves, this board provides us the opportunity to share what we have learned with each other, can't put a price on that!

I have in the past decided not to boat in Nebraska(my favorite lake close to home too!) since they decided not to accept reciprocity with Colorado, I wrote the Nebraska Board of Tourism, and a year later they changed the way they felt and now we have reciprocity, so if you love Lake McConaughy and your from Colorado you can thank me for that:D

Obviously I'm not delusional but it made me feel better!

I think that depends where you boat. I am thinking in say "gator country" its all but mandatory. :cool:

Ditto. Lots of folks down here keep guns on board( usually an old .22) should they come across a toothy critter like an alligator, or large shark, but that's about it.

Not to hi jack or get off topic, but didn't the national right to carry reciprocity act just get passed? :D
There isn't much (if any) gun culture where I'm from and I can't get a concealed carry permit and I really have no reason to carry on the water, though I'd like to... you never know :eek:

It passed the Senate but has yet to make it to Obama for Signature, it also has baggage, there are several issues with it that likely will be fought in Court before it actually makes it to us Minnions, As one of iboats right wing extremists I think the biggest hurdle is how do States Verify other states CCW/CHP holders without a nationwide Database? Simple, YOU CAN'T!! So whats the answer? the obvious answer is a Nationwide Database, problem with that is that several states have made their States CCW/CHP database PUBLIC! And by Public I mean it was published in the Newspaper! Name Phone Number and Address! Hows that tickle your fancy? Other Gun Owners just don't like the Database, to me I don't care, I'm about to be a Sheriff's Deputy anyway so I'm kinda going to the Dark Side anyway!LOL If it were up to me I would simply add a "G" right next to the "M" Endorsement on my Drivers Llicense.

I believe I also told you to move too Zop!!......

Re: Anyone take their firearms aboard their boat?

smokingcrater, I take issue with what your saying, but I need to clarify a few points, are you saying that your lakes are owned, operated and governed by the Army Corps of Engineers? are they not State Parks?

It does not matter if the Army Corps of Engineers maintains the Dam and water levels of the lakes they do not make the Law on a State Park lake or River, Here in Colorado the Corps of Engineers maintains all the Dams and Water Levels but they are all State Parks which makes it perfectly Legal to Carry, I would double check your beliefs as you may very well be able to Carry Legally, Another way to check this is that if your waterways you speak of are patrolled by State or County Employees (Warden or Deputies) most likely you can carry but obviously its hard to say not knowing specifically where you are other then "Northern Plains", I would call your Sheriff's Department and ask them depending on how you feel about them, I know here In Douglas County my Sheriff's Department is VERY PROACTIVE in 2nd Amendment rights so I place a lot of faith in their Stance.

I'm not saying your wrong here smoking I'm just saying you should double check, I don't want you jeopardizing you and your families safety or rights based on misinformation.

To the OP YES I carry on the Boat, On the Harley in my Truck and pretty much everywhere except the shower......ok tried that once too, wife wasn't happy at all, Just Sayin....

Maybe if you look here it might explain it.

2. Public Law 111-024 does not apply to Corps projects or facilities. The passage of this new law does not affect application of Title 36 regulations (36 C.F.R., Chapter III, Part 327, Rules and Regulations Governing Public Use of COE Water Resources Development Projects). 36 C.F.R. ? 327.13(a) prohibits the possession of loaded firearms or ammunition on lands and waters administered by the Corps unless one of the exceptions in 36 C.F.R. ? 327.13(a)(1)-(4) applies. The full text of 36 C.F.R. can be viewed on the NRM Gateway at: http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/employees/visitassist/pdfs/title36.pdf.

327.13 Explosives, firearms, other weapons and fireworks.
(a) The possession of loaded firearms, ammunition, loaded projectile firing devices, bows and arrows, crossbows, or other weapons is prohibited unless:
(1) In the possession of a Federal, state or local law enforcement officer;
(2) Being used for hunting or fishing as permitted under 327.8, with devices being unloaded when transported to, from or between hunting and fishing sites;
(3) Being used at authorized shooting ranges; or
(4) Written permission has been received from the District Commander.

You'd probably be better off and get into less trouble if you shot a human than a gator.

I've fished gator country many times (Lake Eufala Alabama) and never had a problem, as a matter of fact you have to be very quiet and sneek up on them to get a good pic. They're afraid of humans, and for good reason.

Not really worried about gators..But back in San Diego on a private charter tuna boat, if things got slow 120 plus miles offshore, we would break out the arsenal and target practice on bottles, beer cans whatever there was at the time. FUN!!!
Just had to be very careful of the International Water border because the Mexican Navy wouldn't like a bunch of gringos popping of shells on their watch..lol

The ideal boat gun for me is a stainless Mossberg 500, or a ruger 10/22 stainless as well.

If I'm not mistaken a shotgun is in fact a USCG approved signaling device. However I'd advise against pointing it directly at them ...

Do remember my firearms safety instructor saying he takes his stainless shot gun on his boat and in the shower with him... :eek: :)
He was an odd fella that started the course by pulling no less than 7 concealed pistols out plus 3 cans of OC spray, and laying them on a folding table...
They make medication for that.

Yes Thalasso, I interpret this to mean that the USACOE in General prohibits Firearms unless Local/State Laws specifically allow for it which they do in Colorado, Each State makes its own laws and the COE allows for that, What I posted on Page 1 #18 is in Chapter III Part 327 which your Post specifically lists as an exception(in Bold),

From Page one Title 36, Chapter III

327.26 - State and local laws.

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this part or by Federal law or regulation, state and local laws and ordinances shall apply on project lands and waters. This includes, but is not limited to, state and local laws and ordinances governing:
